What do you consider a fast street car?

Street tires, pump gas, ect...

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

A quick street car is high 13's. A fast street car is low 12's. (I think)

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

I would say that high 11's are a fast street car (DOT legal).

high 13's are not quick :P You can buy cars from the dealer like that.

High 11's on street tires and 91 octane. High standards.

So Vipers, Porches, Pagani, Ferrari, Aston Martin, ect...these are all slow cars that can be bought at dealerships?

Your standard would be something that is faster than anything you can buy at a dealership??

They are fast cars, and trust me they can be made a whole lot faster. Out of the box porsches are not always quick. In fact most are non-turbo penis extensions.

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

Any 250whp-350whp 12.5~11.5 sec FWD Honda is what I would consider pretty quick for a street car. Now a Fast street FWD honda (on pump gas and DOTS) running solid 11's is pretty difficult, there isnt to many around, especially in our state.

RWD and AWD is a different story, you can really have fast streetable cars with those drivetrains ;)

my thoughts exactly. DOT street tires (i'm not talking ET streets either :P ) and pump gas, anything in the 12's is pretty quick ON STREET TIRES. anything breaking in to the 11's with 'street' tires and pump gas is pretty fast. now take the same car and change nothing except for putting slicks and a car that runs a high 12's or low 13's on street tires, will now be a low 12 second car, and a car that was running high 11's on street tires will be in to the low 11's or possibly 10's, which is very quick for a daily driven street car. anything over 400whp on the street is pretty much pointless in a honda, you're not going anywhere until 3rd and 4th gear even with dr's. i'm happy with 400whp and FULL interior for my daily driven civic :)

mid 13's will be able to hang with just about anything but, low/mid 12's are easily streetable

mid 13's good for a car that starts out at 16.8 (my accord)

I agree. I also think "fast" or "quick" is debatable depending on your age and location. If you run a low 15 sec around my town you got a car that handle most out there. There are some exceptions, like the old guy driving his Rustang around on slicks. The cars and racing around here are mainly "thought" to be fast cars. When mine is boosted I could probably say it will be ONE of the fastest Civics in town. And reading your guys numbers, mine is ONE of the slowest on here. Guess it depends where your at. :-\

LOL I remember when my old civic was running high 15's and it was the ---- to everyone, I mean 15.9, 16.0

I guess my WRX is "fast" now with the competition around here. Well my town I can probably say I have the fastest car, I have not even taken the car to the track since my tune, so I'm not sure, but with 300awhp the wrx should be running high 12's. More to the Orlando area, a fast car is running 13's all night. Most high performance, or even performance cars out there now will run 13's from the dealer, so I think that is fast.

But there's still that F&F mentality that if it doesn't run 10's you are slow. I get asked all the time, so that things runs 10's, I just laugh at them and say yeah.

Some people I do take some time and explain the truth

yea man. for me it took a swap and then 10 psi, but i went from whatever ungodly time a civic hx runs to mid 13's. in my town full of ricers my car may seem fast, but i know that is better put as quick. in my opiniion anything in the 12's on the street is pretty god damn fast

Same here. I ran 14.5 (my standard shitty, but only went out 2x and no traction and basemaps owned me BIG time)

Most guys saw that and could believe it! Again I thought it was shitty but putting a lot of other car in the process, I guess people are slow in my area.

anywhere in 12's is fast
anywhere in 13's is respectable.
14's not too bad
15's typical of a good driver(late teens) and a not too shitty car
16's mmm, shoulda stayed home
17's embarrasing
18's+ The people who came with you are embarrased!

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

low to mid 12s on the street is fast to me...near me there are a ton of cars but 12s will kill most of them, leaving mostly the race cars that just swapped dr's instead of slicks and put on mufflers and found a place to mount the license plate on the fiberglass front end

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

depends where im living.

in greece we find ---- rangin from twin turbo 500 hp wrx's and then we get 14 seccond fiat puntos.

here its sorta the same, when you can hang with a nice car, then thats fine.

a couple days ago i was with my brother and we where riding around. all of a sudden a brand new late model m3 pulls up.

so we raced him and we kept up with him a coup[le times. for some people that might not be too fast, but i asked my brother how much faster he wants to go and all he says is, if i can keep up with an m3 then i dont wanna go too much faster. i dont wanna kill myself or break my car.

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

Around here my mid 14 second CRX is ungodly. Most people have single cams N/A with VTEC. They all seem to think that a "racing clutch" and "VTEC tuner set at 3000 RPM" is all you need to be fast. They don't understand that having VTEC engage that low is a bad thing. It's really like a blast from the past living around here...circa 1997.

The other up and coming thing is putting an H22 in anything, especially a CRX or Civic just to be able to outrun my B16. When I told them any turbo in the junkyard would "fit" on their car their eyes got real big and needless to say we were all out at the junkyard about 3 minutes later throwing turbos over the fence (they wanted $50 for a blown turbo!). Then they got all pissed off when I told them the TURBO would fit, not the manifold, and that they'd need a custom manifold.

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

Well where i live theres to many fast cars, it all depends on money also. Do you mean fast street car for people under the age of 25? or over. All the really fast low 12's - 11's and so on are owned by older guys with lots of money.

Haha yeah, around here there are some quick cars, most are domestics though, only a few honda guys and most of them are very quiet about their setups (i dont post/talk much about my accord at all in the local forum). Run in the 13s around here and youll get some respect, if you wanna beat ALOT of cars, run 12s. You could own alot of cars around here running mid 14s, easily. Lotsa ricers around here, like my neighbor, who removes his power steering on his 93 dx 4dr "because he likes it that way". Too bad his ass got a beating by my 95lx accord, stock with 3 rims/tires in the trunk (and thats a slowass car) by buslengths, his strutbar/cai wonder and D15 n/a powa and all...

I don't know where the hell 15s is quick or fast or whatever, but I wana go there and steal everyones money.

My opinion

13s = a 60 yaer old woman could do it with a car from the dealer
12s = pretty quick

11s= a fast street car

Re: What do you consider a fast street car?

I think "quick" is being able to drive down the street / freeway and be able to smash on the majority of the cars around you. I think my NA GS-R is "quick" because most of the people I encounter on the street that try to go heads up don't embarass me. I wouldn't dare call it "fast" though. Fast to me is anywhere from 12's to low 13's. In a street car, this means, a reasonable amount of interior, pump gas, street tires, pretty much something you can do at any given time.

yeah, to elaborate on that:
there is something to be said for a car that you can drive to get the groceries or drive on a road trip and if you happened by a drag strip you could drive onto the track and lay down a decent time -- that's a car that is truly a STREET car. if it gets into the 12's without removing bolted-down parts and without changing the tires, that's definitely a respectable fast car. and 13's is quick, given what i just described -- IMHO.
