Pretty simple really, there are rainbow flavors, all quite subtly different. You can get aromatic/alkaloid compounds most anywhere... piperonyl from black pepper, for example, or my favorite asarone from non-North American Calamus oil. Aminate the alkaloid, or preferrably, methylaminate it. Isomerize, aminate, purify, ingest, whee!
Problem is, you end up dealing with a bunch of sketchy *****. I've only met a handful of other people who could comport themselves responsibly with recreational substances. You get sick of babysitting idiots who try to sneak more than is safe, mix with things you tell them they can't intentionally because they think it's like mixing pills and liquor, etc. I walked away from it. Good riddance.

All amphetamines are phenethylamines...it's just that they are "substituted phenethylamines" meaning that have additional chemical modifications at the phenyl ring, the sidechain, or the amino group.
Therefore there are tons of drugs that fall in the group of "phenthylamines" ie. 2C-XX drugs, DOB/M drugs, mescaline, and amphetamines like MDMA and meth.
