Re: we've all done it
There was an interesting thing that happened while I was service writing for Dodge. This couple came in with their Plymouth Voyager van, it was making a knocking noise, but only if you slowed down really slow, then took off quickly. If you stopped completely and took off it wouldn't do it? We couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, there was nothing there that should have caused it, we changed a few things and nothing helped. Finally the tech came up to me with a big grin on his face.
Apparently about 3 months ago (which was magically when the noise began) another tech was doing a recall on this vehicle. Unbeknownst to him, his 3/8 ratchet fell down into the trans crossmember mounting point. you couldn't see it until just the right angle. it didn't contact anything until you drove very slowly then stepped on it, and it would clunk against the trans.
Man we had a hell of a time figuring that one out. funny though. the tech was glad to get his ratchet back.

Yeah I lost a 1/4"drive wratchet and 10mm socket couldn't find it anywhere 2 years later I was doing an engine swap on my old accord and found it wedged down in the splash gaurd with the socket still in it.
I sprayed it with some wd40 and put it back to work.
