Welder
Hey. I'm new here. Thinking of turbocharging my wv polo 1.4 Don't know if you have that car over there.
Thing was I want to learn to weld and of course must get me a welder. I understand there are a lot of different types. What do I go for as a beginner welder? Thanks for a great forum btw. I spend hours and hours readning and I love it!

Re:Welder
Lincoln sells a "begginer kit" i think its called the lincoln 3200 or some ----. it can be used as a gas or gasless welder. you can pick one up brand new for about $400 at home depot. it would be a real good beg. set. -plus if you dont like it, im sure you could easily sell it for about what you had in it.
my brother uses it gas and gasless, he says it does really good. he likes it.
here it is:
Lincoln Electric
Weld Pak 3200HD Wire Feed Welder

Store SKU# 599867

also check out this forum, www.fab-forum.com there is some good info in there.
also check out harbor-freight -they have a kit for $100, but you get what you pay for.

Re:Welder
that model will do up to 3/16" steel in one pass if I remember right.Anything thicker than that and you will have to do multiple passes to get good penetration.Consider though, that to weld something that thick with that machine it will be at its max duty cycle(if your using it at home it will make your lights dim).Ive never used one of those but thats what Ive read.
Its ok for bigginers.Like Frank said,if later you wnat something better you can allways sell it and put the money towards a beter one.
