This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

Well, Beau started off this weekend by getting my new manifold built for My LS/Vtec. I must admit he is doing a very fine job for his first time for something like this. Here are a few pics of the manifold.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/lsvtec/mana3.jpg

It's very nice, all done in stainless, Not sure what the exact sizes are, and how many pieces he used... Beau is getting good with his new Tig welder.

My batteries died on the digi camara, but its pretty much all finished now, Will get some more pics once its cleaned up.

Saturday Night I got a Engine Swap setup for me and Beau to do, it was a basic ZC swap in a 90si crx. We took a few pics for the hell of it.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc1.jpg

A very clean D16a6

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc5.jpg

You can see the 2 differnt plugs for the ZC distributor, and the factory SI harness, Just showing for those people who dont belive me, their is some wiring involved, (cough Dustin)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc3.jpg

Pops wanted us to do a clean install, So beau Busted out the sexy baby blue paint and painted up the manafold shield for our customer.. (LMAO) <--- yes beau you know what that means?!?!? ;)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc4.jpg

We were never going to actually put the heat shield on the car, but we did decide that the Oil pan may rust (LOL) so maybe we should give it a thin coat of baby blue.. hahaha

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc7.jpg

We also tried a different way of pulling in and out of the motor, I wasnt really use to this style, I have always taking the tranny and engine out as a unit, But Beau has showed me the independent flat rate style ;)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc8.jpg

Dont you hate those god damn stickers that are on the new radiator hoses that are a complete bitch to get off? Well I just got to excited picking them off, and decided to get them nice and wet. HAHAHAHAH! ;D (the big black hose)

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/swap/zc9.jpg

Finally done, it took a bit longer than what we are use to, since we had to work out at the barn, and we had no motovation. But it came out very clean, and runs very nice.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/misc/barn/barn2.jpg

This is are holding/storage shop, AKA "THE BARN" refabbed into a import race garage. This is where my Race car is stored.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/ride/90dx/coma2.jpg

Beau made me take these pics, to show everyone how lazy I am. Yes, this is the Big bad boy Race ZC.. Look how fast it is. It needs some major work, it seems to have been used for parts more than anything lately.. :-\ Oh well, need to get a bit more money and the race car will be priority #1. Should be done in time for Race season... (the night before opening day of course)

btw, I dont have a clue when the rest of the website will be done....

Oh I forgot to mention about when we were delivering the car, Beau was driving my car, and he decided to break my shift rod in half! (while power shifting of course)I had to drive the car about 5 miles in 2nd gear on 50mph roads.. Haha. (maybe we should call out a recal on the JB shiftlinkage?) ;)

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

Nice guys! Really impressed with the manifold thus far ;) Beau, please fwd to me where you are picking those bends up at if it is from an online site... if it is a local supply store, then don't worry about it... we got those here.

One thing that is sort of interesting to me is that you guys aren't doing the swaps from the bottom... Shortly after i got done with my own car, i was introduced to the world of doing swaps from the bottom of the car, and i'll NEVER do it from the top again. These days my cherry picker gets used simply to move things, and to raise the car if the lift is unavailable... LoL.

HMT-Admin 01-06-2003 12:47 AM

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

Oh we still do swaps like that, but at "The barn" we dont have a lift :(

On 5g and up civic/tegs its a peice of cake doing bottom swaps. All that lovely room.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/lsvtec/lsv3.jpg

When we did the LS/vtec on my car, that is how we did it.

I do motor swaps on most Nissans and Kias that way as well.

Jeff

AAaaahhh... ok, was just checkin ;) LoL.

Coming from a "V8 world" growing up, i went in from the top on most everything until very recently... now i won't do it any other way than from the bottom ;D

Blah...

shortyz 01-06-2003 02:09 AM

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

ok yeah they got em
www.mcmaster.com
go there and put in "Unthreaded Stainless Steel Welded Pipe - Schedule 40" in search. then hit catalog page.

hope that helps! 7.71

ComposiMo 01-06-2003 02:35 AM

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

Actually, that search you gave brought up nothing but straight-stock... but i found this:

http://www.mcmaster.com/param/asp/ps...+Pipe+Fittings

Which led me to this:

http://www.mcmaster.com/param/asp/ps...530&FT_148=921

I'm not sure if that last one is the dimensions that Beau used, but they're wanting $7.34 per bend. When you're talking about buying a bunch of bends at once, $2.34 extra per bend start adding up, which is why i'm interessted in knowing where he is getting his.. ;) Although you can get Schedule 10 for $5.28 per bend.... wonder if it would be thick enough to hold without cracking... hmmm. More experimentation needed ;D

shortyz 01-06-2003 02:47 AM

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

HIT THE GOD DAM CATALOG PAGE its above matching items.

that will bring up everything..

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

thats were I got them from, they are schedule 10 which is plenty thick for stainless, I can't rember the exact dimensions right off hand. The straight piece i just bought at our local steel co.

Guys I realy don't know if im going to be making these to sell im sure i'll make my self one, but I dont know about mass production.

"so what would you guys pay for a manifold like this? im not saying im going to sell them just wondering what thier worth to you guys"

Well, considering i paid close to $1100.00 for mine......... ;)

Lets see the finished product... specifically close-ups of the collector (inside). I understand that the welds likely will be better in the next one's, but lets base this pricing opinion on this exact manifold. This is a very good question that even i am interested in hearing the answer to... hehe.

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

I bet you could get 400-550 on ebay if you polished that fucker up and gave it a saucey title. Personally, I wouldn't buy one, because I can make on for cheaper and I really don't care how it looks. But if I did, then 400 would not be unreasonable

BLACKSI 01-08-2003 12:30 AM

Re:This Weekend at HMT, Lots a Pics..

"Well, considering i paid close to $1100.00 for mine........."

wholly ---- thats alot of cash for a manifold what all came with it, askets/ new studs or was it just the manifold?

I can tell you now that this thing is no were near as nice as yours espeacily the inside of the collector but hopfuly things will get better with time.
