All in all it makes for a semi-ok bedtime story, the part that always bothered me was after Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel and Cain killed Abel it says Cain left the area and moved somewhere else and found a wife. WTF did this other woman come from if Cain and Abel were the only "2" children Adam and Eve had up to this point? Either someone botched the story or there's some major incest goin' on there.

The way I read it , Cain and Abel did have other siblings. And Cain took off with one of his sisters after owning his brother

my mom is a religious nut - when I was little she played the bible on tape for me when I went to bed. Talk about a mind ----

Yeah, mine too...except she still tries pounding that bullshit into my head every time I talk to her. I'd have to say in general after seeing how most "Christians" act and behave towards others, I don't want any part of it. I pretty much believe it was a hyped up history lesson of the earliest years of man after they learned how to write. The whole part about God just seems like a way to scare people into behaving like a moral society. Besides, how can a book written by men and dissected and re-invented be "the word of God"? IIRC it was the Roman emperor Constantine who reigned under pagan religion and saw the popularity and influence of Christianity slowly start to take over. Of course, being like any other politician, the vote of the people and what was popular at the time became precedence. Towards the end of his reign as emperor he sat down with the heads of all the major Christian churches to establish one main church. Of course, every church had their own version of the "bible", each one differing from the other, so they pretty much had a pick and chose fest of what was to go in it. The literal translation of "God" in the original texts read "Gods"...plural. How could you have one supreme being though if the translations read "Gods" multiple? You couldn't, so they conveniently dropped that little part. Also a lot of texts never made it into the Bible, especially one's that mentioned incest (back to Genesis ) or manuscripts that disagreed with other portions of the Bible. It should come as no surprise that a lot of the Koran has the same basic story to it as the Bible, so more than likely pieces of text are shared between the two. Either way it was a control factor back then, and it's still a control factor now.

And Bone pretty much said it all in his post.

I'm not bashing religions.........but christians have killed more people in the name of "God" than any other religon. Did you forget about the crusades?

everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe. I do believe in a higher power greater than us ants on Earth.

Star Trek: The Wraith of Kahn

The Genesis Project, who is to say our Earth is not someones genesis project, no one.

Oh yeah, three words that will **** off ALOT of regilous zealots

Dead Sea Scrools

The Bible, as my father stated, is a good book to read and live by. Basic morals. He was raised catholic, even an alter boy......how I never figured it out

In short, I don't care what you believe, just do NOT try to push it on me.

I've heard that before, but why is that? I've read about the dead sea scrolls but I guess I failed to see the significance, And thought they just verified certain parts of the Hebrew bible. Then of course the articles I've read on them , were probably very opinionated.

I agree with your dad, Even though I do not follow/live by any religion as a adult; I do feel being raised christian did install some good base morals . but I'm sure a child can achieve the same thing with loving parents who are not complete tards
