Warning: Viruses and Email
Seems the Abaz just got slammed with several dozen emails containing an attachment titled: 'lovescr.scr'. As a pre-warning to EVERYONE on these message boards never, ever under any circumstances open an attachment in email that is of the following file types:
.bat, .exe, .com, .sys, .scr, .dll, and any other sort of 'executable'.
A virus has to be executed in order to assault your system, once its run you'll have to go through a proceedure to stop it.
If you are recieving emails from anyone especially more then once within the hour with content that seems 'out of the ordinary' and has attachments of those file types, warn them that they are infected and need to take steps towards either:
a) leasing an anti-virus program
b) find the virus manually and clean it
c) ask me for help
This particular virus that is going around, Symantec has developed a cure for - you can download it from them at:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...er/FixYaha.com
You must run the fix while in Safe Mode if you are using Windows XP.
Booting to safe mode (Windows XP) -
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Type in msconfig
4. The System Configuration Utility appears. Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK.
5. You will be asked to restart, click restart.
The computer will now boot into safe mode, find where you saved the above file and run it after windows is done loading. Then shutdown as normal, and reboot.
Please talk to me if you have any other concerns.
