voter registration

I have never voted before, and I am wondering WHY there are so many languages to choose from on a voter application form? I thought you had to be a US citizen to vote. And if you are a US citizen you will be able to speak, read, and write the English language unless you are illiterate. Here in Hawaii they list five languages on their application form!!

Well I just now got a reply back from the elections comity here in hawaii....and was told that:

"In response to your inquiry, the State of Hawaii provides voting materials in alternative languages to meet federal law requirements. Ilokano, Chinese, and Japanese are the primary languages mandated by the U.S. Department of Justice."

So I looked it up on the U.S. Department of Justice

its cause your in ------- hawaii, which is ------- BEAUTIFUL to vacation in, dont think i would want to live there though, too ------- expensive... ::) it might at well be another ------- country, your 1000 miles from any other damn state. (after reading my post, i dont think i could use the word "-------" anymore)

i did, the reading a bit of it makes me hate the country im in... since we cant discriminate, we have to cater to EVERYBODY, regardless... so if you speak croation, we have to accomidate, like some croation mother fucker really gives a rats ass... if people ------ cared, they would just learn to speak english, and im just jealous cause im back here in butt----- freezing illinois at ~15degrees F.

It takes some getting use to living here. e.g if you go to a fast food restaurant and you have to deal with second language mostly tagalog...I enjoy listening to them when they say something that starts with the letter "f" they pronounce it "P" so they would say "puck you"!!

My Filipino friend told me this joke.. what do you call a two pilots............."a pair of pliers."

I am curious though, how long you have to live here. in America, before your just an American? I hate the prefixes associated with that. Or how much mutt you have to be mixed with that you have no idea what you are so, it is just easier to say I am an American?.
