Vehicle ownership question

Ok, I sold my busted ass Civic about a year ago to a "friend". ::) He claimed he was going to fix it up and do this and do that to it. I still owed money on it at the time so I couldn't sign the title over. This guy was supposed to be a friend so I trusted him. No bill of sale. Well, the cops are looking for me because the car was dropped off on the side of someones house and they want it removed. ---- that. It's not my car. I'm not taking it. There is no junkyard here so it's not like I can just call them and tell them to come get it. I'm dropping the dime on my "friend" so he can get fucked. I sold the ------- car to him and I have witneses. I'm not about to take resposibility for this ----. It's been over a year now.

What should I do? :-\

Re:Vehicle ownership question

Setting it on fire isn't going to get rid of it and shooting the ---- out of it isn't either. I'm not towing this pile of ---- out to the desert either. I'm sure it's stripped down to the metal so I doubt it rolls. ---- that.

Am I fucked? ???

I can't be fucked. I know there is something I can do. :-\

Ok, there is no proof that I didn't hand him a notarized title. It's out of my hands. If he didn't tranfer the title over into his name, that's not my problem, right? How the ---- can I be resposible for this? I sold the fucker. How can you sell a vehicle to someone and not have the damn thing in your name anymore without them transfering the title? I owned my truck for a year before I tranfered the title into my name.

God damn it....

What's the worst case scenario? How bad can I get fucked for this? I'm not taking the car. What are they going to do?

How do I sell a giant piece of metal. It's a bare ass shell. Nobody is going to buy an empty shell. There is nothing to sell off it. It's the body of what was once a car.

i stripped my car then cut it up in pieces when i smashed it. every thursday the garbage man got a nice heavy bag

i did this partly because it was stolen when i bought it. the vins were changed and the vin inside the engine bay was grinded off. :-\

Re:Vehicle ownership question

are you holding the title, or does the finance company still have it?

Re:Vehicle ownership question

i believe you are supposed to notify the DMV at least in cali when you sell a car.

you could say it was stolen and you didnt notice until now?

you my friend are fucked. Unless you have documents stating that you sold the car to him, you are fucked. Being that you are the REGISTERED owner, YOU are responsible for the car. If you say you sold it, they'll say why didn't you send in the 'Release of Liability' form, you say cause he's my friend, they say tough luck :-\

pagong 10-21-2004 11:58 PM

Re:Vehicle ownership question

You should go directly to the closest DMV, and give them the bill of sale with your exfriend's name and address. That way its under his name not yours.

robs99si 10-22-2004 12:02 AM

Re:Vehicle ownership question

just say you gave him the tittle, that you never knew he didn't mail it. ---- it.

Cray91 10-22-2004 12:05 AM

Re:Vehicle ownership question

So the title is in your name with a lein on it from the bank, I am assuming.

You sold it to him for cash, without transfering the title.

I think that you are screwed as far as liability.

If you had at least completed the title transfer in person and he hadn't transfered it, then you would have a case.

How much is left to pay on the car?? A scrap yard will pay you by the lb. for the metal. That can help you recoop some of the cost.

Re:Vehicle ownership question

boost your supposed to notify the MVD that you sold it, if your looking for a way out start reading www.servicearizona.com

tow it with ur pickup, drag that ---- to a junk yard (did u said there`s no junk yard ?) :-\
or tow it to somewhere get it pressed.

Re:Vehicle ownership question

the car owns to whoever's name is on the title :-\ No matter what papers you have signed and what not. So your kinda fucked cause the car is your responsibility and your probably going to have to pay the fines. Hopefully your 'friend' will do the right thing and pay for it for you.

But basically I think they can only get you with illegal dumping, towing and storage fees. Its all fines so there's nothing they can really ---- you with.

Explain your situation to the cops and see what they say. :-\ Your not in the wrong here so just be nice to the cops and hopefully they'll help you out.

I can't believe there are no salvage yards. The are scrap metal companies around where I live that will pay you per ton. Might check into it

Dr.Boost 10-22-2004 07:50 AM

Re:Vehicle ownership question

No scrap yards, no junkyards. :-\

I have the title free and clear now. At the time it wasn't payed for.

I don't see how they can prove ---- because if I had the title notarized and handed it over to him, it's out of my hands and if he doesn't transfer the ownership I have no way of knowing or proving anything. That's gay. I'm not about to pay any fines. He made money off it selling parts to his ricer friends so he can pay the -------. From what he told me, the car was towed to a junkyard and is long gone.

Oh well, I guess I'm just going to tell the cops who I sold it to and see what happens. :-\

you're kinda fucked...my mom sold a car and the guy asked if she would leave the registration sticker on so he could drive it home. My mom being the nice lady did this and after a year or so she got all the things in the mail saying there was a warrant out for her arrest for unpaid parking tickets. You believe that ----???

Re:Vehicle ownership question

That sucks.I think your fucked.

If you never filled a release of liability form at the DMV or what ever they call it there legaly its still yours.Even if you didnt have the title you could of done that.

Sorry Justin.Just roll that fucker into the lake ;)

Re:Vehicle ownership question

so let me get this straight, he bought the car, has no proof that he bought it, and it's still in your name? explain to the cops what happened and that you're not liable for any damaged that was caused by the car, but agree to remove the car, then sell it again, or part it out and make even more money off of it.....

So wait, you HAD THE TITLE NOTARIZED AND HANDED OVER TO HIM? Are you saying that you had an offical document stating that YOU sold the vehicle to HIM? Cause if you have that, along with the date, you should be fine. If and ONLY if you have this document dated stating that you sold the car to him, show the Cops or whoever the document and tell them that you sent in the 'Release of liability form' but knowing the post office it got lost.

you should have brought it to your house, put it in the front yard, filled it with potting soil and grew a garden in it.

The car was fucked. I stripped the ---- out of it and sold it to him for $20 just to get it the hell out of my garage. It's not even close to being "salvagable" as it sits. I doubt it's anything more than the BARE shell, no suspension, tires, seats, ANYTHING. It's done.

I didn't have the title so I didn't notarize it and all that ----, but even if I did, how the ---- would I prove it? I wouldn't have a damn bit fo proof......and neither would they.

If that cock sucker cop comes back tonight at a reasonable hour I'll let him know whos door to go knocking on. If that doesn't work I'll just have him arrest me for assault ahead of time and get it over with because I'm not going to be a happy camper if I get fucked over this. :-\

Re:Vehicle ownership question

if oral contracts ( :D) hold up in your state, you are fine. people dont always register cars right off the bat, i didnt transfer ownership on my eg for like 6 months. it just sat in my garage. if you can prove you sold it to him thru witnesses or paperwork, you are set.
