vacuum smoke thingy question

ok i got this idea,

like a smoke machine but way cheaper.

could you just fill a 2 liter jug with water and dry ice, then run a line from it to the TB and have a smoke machine to check for leaks.

figure the ice should make enough smoke cause if you cap the bottle it expands and explodes so obviously there is an excess gas produced.

but the question is, how much dry ice to create enough smoke to fill the intake manifold and come out any leaks?

like so, mad crazy paint skills.

Looks like an upside down portrait of Mr. Garrison to me.

I'm guessing that the dry ice wouldn't put off enough smoke to really show leaks, but it might work.

i see a crazy morphed sperm.. lol

dude check for leaks = turn car on and spray starter fluid along where you think its leaking.. if car dies down for a sec then thats your leak..

second.. buy a hookah (because it produces more smoke) or just smoke a cig.. turn car on and exhale on where you think its leaking.. watch smoke get sucked in?

chances are even if you have a vacume leak.. filling the intake with smoke wont show you the leaks.. vacume leaks usually are small.. and just because a vacume leak can suck in air doesnt mean it will let out smoke...

It's not going to work at all when the engine is running, there is less pressure in the intake than atmo so no smoke would come out of any leaks it would just get sucked into the engine. The only way it would work would be if you pressurized the intake system with it when all of the intake valves are closed. Also, CO2 gas is usually invisible unless you used a bunch of it. Nice idea for thinking differently but there are easier ways.

like an just plug the throttle opening with a cap so it is air tight. and do a manual vacuum tester ot opposite and pressurize it just like a leak down test but alittle different

Dry ice vaporizes into CO2 which is an inert (and thus oxygen displacing) gas. It would just kill the motor, like putting out a fire with a CO2 extingusher. :3
