Default V-Tec questions

I have a d16z6 with a 15g turbo. I was wondering if there is any way of setting the point to where its kicks in without a vtec controller. I also believe that the vtec "shuts off" if the engine is hot.. it that right? And if so, how do i know when the vtec is gona work before a race for example. How do i know if it is "on" or "off". Sorry.. im kinda a newb.. and i dont know shizout about vtec. Any input at all.. or opionons even.. would be great.. thx

Vtec works when hot, you have it backwards. When the engine is cold, vtec will not engauge. And no the only way you can modify the point of activation is with a rpm switch or vtec controller.

How do you know its on? well it will obviously be faster, and on single cams its a bit hard to hear, but you can hear the intake change sound.

that sounds weak, the switch over isnt even that loud, I wouldnt be suprised if that was a single cam. My gf's old gsr was very loud.

---- you should hear vvtli on a toyota with a nice intake and exhaust, holy ----, puts vtec to shame.

if u wanna be kinda ricey, and u wanna know when your VTEC kicks in on an SOHC, hook up and LED to your vtec (+) line...tap into it, and LEDs don't drain much power, so it won't effect anything

if you do get an LED.... make sure its a 12V....and not a 120V.... Im going to be testing this on a friends car... cause he thinks his VTEC isnt hitting anymore...

Let me rephrase that... make sure its for 12V applications... and not 120V... otherwise it wouldnt work

I am pretty sure the vtec solenoid works off a 3v or 5v signal.
