Ugg money problems, how should I finish up my build?

Argg well I'm elbow deep in the sloppy vagina that is building turbocharged engine with turbo kit. I'm 18 years old, I go to high school 5 days a week, I worked 30 hours a week, and had no free time. Needless to say I had no life, except for will to work on my car. It finally hit me when my girlfriend left me a few days ago how much I've completely thrown any fun in my life away. I love cars, but I'm ------- tired as ---- working for my damned cars. I cut my hours back to about 20 a week, but I still want to get this build done. So how could I cheaply finish this build.

Car: 1998 Acura Integra
B18A1 - 190,000mi from an Auto Integra
Wiseco 8.5:1 CR 81mm bore thermal coated pistons
Eagle H-beam Connecting Rods
ARP Headstuds
Devcon Liquid Aluminum
Like-New Oil Pump
LS head & Intake Manifold from my current B18B1

T3/T04b rebuildt from Westcoast-turbo
2.5in charge piping
BMC Log Manifold(needs to be externally gated)
38mm Tial WG
Greddy RS BOV
6' JRC Intercooler
Walbro 255 HP Fuel Pump
DSM 450cc Injectors
Stealthmode Oil feed/return lines

Anyway I might be leaving out a few things, but what I think I need to finish this ---- up is...

New OEM berings - ??
New OEM waterpump - $50
New gaskets - ??
Dumptube - ??
Downpipe w/ o2 bung ??
Chipped ECU - $150-175
Basemap - ??
Crome - Free
3Bar Map Sensor - ??
New Oil and Filters - ??
Intake Filter - ??
Couplers and Clamps - ??
Wideband - $250-300
Fuel Pressure Regulator - $150-200?

<_< I hope to have it done sometime by summer, which will be late May.

My plans were to get the head milled a bit, tanked, and honed, but I really don't want to pay for all that ----. Is there any way to clean my engine without getting it tanked? If not how should I clean it up?

I plan to run .5 bar normally and 1 bar when racing. Ill probably make my own manual boost controller, or buy a cheap one off of ebay.

Can anybody give me some short-cuts or hints of ---- I don't really need?

builds always have hidden costs and will end up costing you more than what you planned.

Just a little more reality to crush your spirit :y

Sell the turbo ----, sell the 8.5:1 pistons, buy 11:1 pistons, done.

You said cheap, right? ;D

Really though, I'm in the same boat as you - I've worked 30 hour weeks along with high school and a girlfriend and a bunch of other ----. It's not easy, and it's not worth it to waste some of the best years of your life puttin' around a grocery store fillin yogurt and milk. Thats what I did anyway.

I say you sell some ---- and run a more mild or even an N/A setup...then start putting money in the bank for a rainy day. I've been in / am in your situation and that's about what I'm doing.

Not because of that, but the situation has made me realize I've been essentually throwing away my social life over the past few months.

I'm not selling any of this stuff, I've sacraficed too much and selling it wouldn't get me anywhere. That may be a stubborn ideal, but to tell you the truth I didn't buy all this ---- to get a 60% monitary return on it, I bought it because I had plans for it and I still do. Anyway, any other comments?

All I can say is good luck. How much do you make at your current job?

Also chipped ecu for $150? I hope you're including the cost of the ECU itself.

Minor Threat 03-02-2006 04:28 PM

Re: Ugg money problems, how should I finish up my build?

Yeah, chipped ECUs can be had for cheaper.

Also, you don't need the wideband or the FPR.

It's all little ---- from here on in, you may not need to replace bearings either.

Also, wait on the 3bar sensor, or get a 2.5 Motorola from Digikey for 20 bucks.

You've made it this far, and that's a solid build right there, don't throw it all away when you're 200 bucks away from being done. How many 18 year olds can say they built their own turbo Honda?

There will be time in the future for hoes and social stuff.Build the ride while your young and can truly enjoy it.I have given up my entire social life, healthy diet etc all to build my CRX but it is worth it.And remember its only money and you cant take it with you when you die so start spending.

Heh, not my mentality as far as disposing of my social life for a material value, such as my car. Yes I love it, but I really would be happier knowing I've done other things than being a slave to my hobbies. I'd personally rather have new experiences to forfill my life. I dont think crippling my social life now for car parts isn't exactly helping this.

I'm 18 years old, I've worked for about 3 years straight. Sine I was 15 I've held a job, for my first car up until this point. Most of my friends are through work and I'm sick and ------- tired of working. Thank God I'm off to college next year and I wont have to deal with this ----(working) for some while.

Anywho I'll see what I can't salvage off my current motor.

Not to go on some spill, but I'm really distrought that I lost her... or she left me.

She was a badass girl. Hot... liked the rough and kinky sex. She was a ------- wonderful artist, as matter of fact shes going to Art Institute of Chicago next year. This happened recently so the last few days have been heart-pounding stressful for me. I really, really cared for her. I can't get any part of the situation off my mind. I felt that I royally fucked up, and that is why I feel that I should change. Not just for the this situation, but for myself. I don't want this ---- to happen again with anybody else, or her if we ever get back together. A car cannot replace people, and a nicely built car will never replace what I would have missed when working for it on a $7/hour wage.

Anyway I'm going to take it easy for a while, hopefully things shall work out for the best... I'm still recovering and hopefully I'll be back on my feet sooner or later.

Re: Ugg money problems, how should I finish up my build?

Well it sounds like maybe you should step away from the car stuff for a while. It really depends what you want and what value you put on things. To really be building a ride etc it requires alot of sacrifice and can def effect other aspects of life.Personally it is not a hobby for me it is a lifestyle and I dont want to have a quick car i want to absolutely dominate and be the fastest. This means i give up everything else in pursuit of it similar to if you want to be a pro or similar at sports it means total commitment. It sounds like you had a really nice girl and I must admit at times I wish i had the extra time for dating/relatioships kinda stuff instead of just ---- and bail before she wakes up.Maybe you should consider just chucking in a stock motor and a basic kit and that will allow you to concentrate on those other things in life such as dating etc.Life is full of tough choices that must be made.Good luck.

Re: Ugg money problems, how should I finish up my build?

think of it this way. There's no chance in hell you're going to build that turbo honda and have a reliable car. You're just going to have to spend more money in like 6 mo top.,

on the other hand. 1. No one here wants to hear about some high maintenance broad dumped you because she was jealous of a car. You worked hard for it, you put the time into it and that will be better off in your life than some high maintenance chick. 2. You will possess the knowledge to work on your own car(s). 3. You possess the determination to set goals and accomplish them (being 18, saving for a car or it's work, school, working etc is not easy).

Screw her, you're better off IMO. I dont care WHO she is/was, if she even HINTS for you to pick her or the car, the one who didnt force the decision wins. this should tell you alot about HER that you didnt know. she's selfish.

art institute is stupid, it wont get you anywhere or put you in any position to make any decent amount of money, that just proves shes stupid.

N1ghtM0nkey 03-03-2006 04:07 PM

Re: Ugg money problems, how should I finish up my build?

Well for once scottsi said something intelligent.

Being a slave for your hobbies isn't any fun either. I've been doing it since I was 12. I'd go to work with my dad to make some cash on the side, then come home and read write ups and forums and ---- pertaining to R/C cars and what not. It hasn't gotten me anywhere far.

If you've got another daily driver just slow down the rate at which your project is progressing. If it's the only car you have to drive and it doesn't run, then obviously you need to get it running. Otherwise, I'd just take your time with the rest of the build and enjoy other things in life for awhile.

Moron. I know this may be hard for you to understand... well given that you're a chink the numbers might make more sense but for some people doing things isn't about the money. Let me put it this way so you can understand: "To some people $500,000 for some art work isn't their goal. Will he, or she, accept it? Most likely, but that would probably only be an uber positive side path of creating it."

Anywho, I understand people's hate, if not apathy, toward high school relationships, but as you'll hear every time I really liked her. I might get with her in the future or something. Anyway I'll also miss the novelty of having sex with a girl that has the same name as me: Taylor. 8 ( booo.

Also let me note that I don't have car(s) plural. That was a misstype on my part. I just have a daily driver w/ and extra block.

------- nuff said right there.

You're young dude. If the chick really loved you she would have stuck by you. Second, there will be PLENTY of other girls to go out with and you have plenty of good years ahead of you. Your hobby shouldn't be stressful. It may stress you out from time to time but it shouldn't be something you dread doing. If it's really bothering you then just take a break from it right now. It would be a shame to give up on your build now that you're very close to finishing.

And as far as being down about the girl...just stay busy. Work extra if you feel like it, go out with your friends, work on your car if you feel like it.

I say finish the build but keep the spare B18 just in case

You’re going to collage next year! The best social time of your life is a year away; don’t let anyone tell you different. Forget about the selfish girlfriend and look forward to meeting hotter, cooler, non-selfish girls in collage, While your at it, work on the project car here and there, it will never leave you for spending too much time with a girl.

In other words; what the ---- is the problem here?
