Two thumbs up for Toyota
 

I just got back from the local Toyota dealership, I got a recall notice in the mail a month or so ago and just got around to getting the work done. The recall was for the steering relay rod, which I guess may break, The service manager said that there has only been a few to actually break and that it was mainly when people were wheeling in the woods. Anyways, they replaced the rod and also put on new outter tierods and gave it the truck a full alignment. Not too bad for a 13 year old truck !! I don't see too many car manufactures worrying about a part on a vehicle that is this old, the truck is a '93, and I'm amazed they they felt that this was something that needed to be taken care of on a vehicle this old. Overall the local dealer did a great job and the free alignment was needed.

good to hear, but it probably them trying to avoid a lawsuit...my dad got a check in the mail for like a grand from chevy like 15 years after he bought his truck because they got sued

I've heard many a bad story about Toyota dealers being complete ass-monkeys. That's a good dealio on the recall. Good thing.

I heard Subaru dealerships cover everything under warranty, even your modded 300 HP WRX non-STi ;)

thats complete and abosulte bullshit, they wont cover ----, my friend bought his STI, put about 6k on it, stock clutch, full turboback exhaust, redline launched it all day like it was nothing, and at 6.5k the rear diff blew out and when he brought it to the dealer they didnt want to cover it, they said it was from abuse and there is no way that this happened from normal driving, so in the end he had to pay 5k or so to have it all fixed. warranty my ass.

my uncle on his old civic while he was modded blew the head gasket and took it to the dealer and they try to do the same and he made them repair it cus it was under warranty they try to say it happened while racing and he told them they had no proof of him doing that

lol. who the ---- do yall go to? we completly tore down the engine on my bros wrx, put it all togeather, it didnt work. we towed it to dealership, and they fixed everything still under worranty. hell the dealer we go to even has a 4 wheel dyno and a tuner. anyone ever heard of scot seigel (sp?) he seems to be pretty famous.

As can I.....I had a 50k mile tranny in my '00 RS Suby commuter car "go out" (losing preasure in one of the shifting solinoids...*auto* sucks).....I fixed it and traded it for a '92 Prelude, and an engine block

Toyota / Lexus dealers are notoriously good about recalls. If you exactly qualify for one. No big deal to them.
The problem people have is not qualifying for one, OR there not *actually* being a recall on something. There is a biiig difference between a "TSIB", and a "Recall Campain".


Toyota dealers doing service, are OK. About average in costs etc.
Lexus... 3-6x average price markup on a part VS Toyota cost with an average of 50-150% labor charges.

Only thing you can say about Lexus, is that if there is a bad recall & you have one of their expencive models <cough a v8 + <cough> they'll ride their happy ass to where you live, give you a car & drive the car to the dealership. They'll also give you the next higher end / newest loaner car off the lot than what you have if they keep your car overnight.


Otherwise... Lexus service is pitifully expencive, and should be avoided at all costs.
