twin turbo v-8 chrysler
 

I have a 1954 dodge truck that i currently have a naturally asperated 360 v-8 in. It blew chunks the other day and today i won an ebay auction for two barely used Garrett T35 turbos with an A/R of .65 on the compressor side, 1.10 on the exhaust and built in wastgates. This summer when it warms up up here i'm going to yank the crappy small block and drop in a 383 big block with the t35's on it. I will be intercooling it and it will be rebuilt properly with turbo pistons, heavier rods, and a compression ratio of about 8.5:1. I was wondering if, running premium, what amount of power could i get out of this engine without killing it in say, 2-4 years, and if so, roughly what pressure would i need to run to get that power. I am also curious as to fuel delivery systems. I have access to just about every type and size of carb used on the chrysler v-8's. I would really like to fuel inject it but really couldn't afford it. How do i make a cabureted system work properly? Also, where do you route the oil lines from on the engine and what sizes do i need to supplly the oil? Any sugestions for a good BOV or two? is a 383 a big block i think thats still considerd a small block as for your power gains i have no clue im sure it should be decent but like all set ups it all comes down to tuning.

What type of wastegates are you planning on using?

Are you going do be doing a blow through setup?

stock carbs I think can only take 5-6psi before they have to be modified.

Their is a great group on yahoo that talks alot about v8 turbocharging.

The turbos you have selected are going to be plenty big for your application as well.

As far as how long it will last, that is the same with any motor, how well its tuned, and how you drive it.

383 is a stroked 350 small block first of all :)
but the other ---- i don't know, never done a turbo projects on a sbc...

Come on man, cut me some slack, this is my first post, i didn't know where the hell to put it. As far as the big block thing, no it is not a small block. It is technically a "B" series block, which is neither a big block(RB series) or a small block(LA series) cuz its 1.5 inches bigger than a small block and 2 inches smaller than a big block(Chrysler's infinate wisdom). If it were a chevy 383, then yes cuz a chevy 383 is just a stroked small block 350. I'm going to use the wastegates that came with the turbos, that's why i got em, cuz they had built in ones, which makes life a lil easier for me. what i need is a good recommendation for a BOV. What kind of pressures could i take if i used a draw through system and what are the disadvantages? i have a friend that's a carb guru so he could rebuild one to take the pressure if i use a blow through system. I deffinately want to run more than 5-6 pounds of pressure, that's another reason why i bought the twins. I already have a monster t04 of a mack diesel at home, but i really wanted a twin setup for better response(trust me the mack one is HUGE) and more boost. Josh

Well I couldnt tell you how much boost you are going to run, because the internal wastegates have a preset level, could be anywhere from 5-10psi.. So be aware when the first time you start it up and give it some gas. ::)

As far as how much could the motor take? I am sure a pretty stout V8 could take a serious amount of boost if managed correctly. I personally, dont know what the advantages/disadvantages of the draw through/blow through type systems. I have read alot about them in maxium boost, but never tried them my self. This board is mainly Honda/Acura based guys, so I highly doubt anybody will have to much info for you. Maybe someone else has a link/website that could help you out.

For blow off valves, You can run twin small blow off valves, or run your pipes together and use 1 large blow off valve. The tial 50mm blow off valve, or the the Godzilla turbonetics blow off valves are perfect for this.

The guy i bout the turbos from said they were used on a 5.0 mustang drag car. The car ran 18 psi. Is there any way for me to dial down the pressure?

if the interal gates are preset at that, you will have to modify the wastegate actuator rod, by moving it outward. sometimes they have threads on them to let you lower them. A boost controller wont allow you to lower it anything lower than the gates are preset at.

d'oh, i thought you were talking about a chevy motoro. my bad, i don't know much about chrysler engines.

you should seriously run 6psi out of both turbos. i don' tknow about chystler engines, but a 350 with stock internals can run about 12psi without retarding the timing or getting better pistons. getting the gas there seems to be the hard part. i don't know how you would do it with a carb. maybe just big jets in the secondaries...

i asked my father about the twin turbo carb setup, he said to go 10 jets richer, then tune from there. and since there will be more air going through the carb, more gas will get sucked through the jets, so it really is only a matter of slight retuning.
