unless you give them a reason they will never check. i have never had them check any of the vins on my cars. in washington at least and thats where op is from. i actually was planning on doing this with one of my cars. but between being honest to people i was buying the shell from and being lazy. i finally got my title in the mail a year and half later...

if your doing the buy a shell and swap the vins. best thing to do is tell the seller your buying it for a track car or parts car. dont tell them the truth or they will think your a shady and probably wont sell you the car. its just a off the wall story to tell a seller

Part it out its not like you have tons of money in it. You will proably make a couple hundred bucks parting it out. Shell gets cut up into pieces and goes to the scrap yard.

exactly, is it really worth risking police trouble over a couple hundred bucks?
Not that it's a guarentee it ever gets found out, but if it does?

No, he should get the sack of ---- who defrauded him into legal trouble in exchange for what his time/labor, parts, and original purchase of the car are worth. ---- all the dumb ----.

There's a good chance he can get the chump to refund him and then the asshat will be too much of a puss to pick up the car, at which point you wait 30 days and then part it out.

OK that is a better answer.

But I was meaning ghosting the vin isn't worth it.
