Tips on rattle canning my car
So on fixing the rust on the 86 I decided why not just paint the rest of it. So I just have a scrubby pad and some sand paper. I painted all around the fenders since thats where most of the rust was and thats gonna get fender flares. But for the bigger body panels and tips. I remember reading in the SCC when they painted the WRX flat black and they kept the paint cans in a bucket of hot water to keep the paint even when it comes out and not so blauchy. The paint over all is just really faded that a wax job wouldn't help or a buffing out. Also there's no plastic I have to paint since I painted all that flat black already(bumpers and trim). Any colors in specific that are easier to work with or brands that you find better?
I decided on a dark gold/bronze I found shopping around at walmart and bought a couple cans. Though after I sanded down the nicks and whatnot and tack ragged her down on a trial spot. You could tell exactly where I started and stopped and it was too ghetto gold. I tried putting down a black base coat and then laid down a coat of the gold and still didn't even help.
Here's the car right when I got it faded missing paint on the bumpers, Just gave it that SR5 look and gave it flat black bumpers
painted bumpers, rocker panel and wheel well lip
Chip Foose eat your heart out
Blouchy! Oh la la
So I'll bring back my latino gold paint and try something alittle less outlandish. Gold was actually a factory color on the GT-S too but just not this gold! lol

I actually follow the flare of the fender lip with the tape. Once I get the flares on you won't see that anyway. The stuff black is less cosmetic and more just for slowing down the rust. More likely I'm gonna cut all that around the fender lip. I put some of that stuff that turns rust to black primer before I painted it flatblack. I'm gonna go with something darker and more simple like a .... dark blood red... or maybe dark orange if I can find something like that at walmart other I may have to hit up like a home depot hardware type place for a bigger selection but those are my color choices right now. Anything but green since I have 2 green cars as it is.

Man just keep it one colour
Flat black or possibly flat army green
You can tell you spray like a nigro to, way to close and hammering down on the nozzle leaving a thick stroke that you can easily make out. If you dont mind buying 2-3 more cans you can do your whole car and have it lok like it was sprayed like mine does.
Hold the can 6-8" back, pretty much just misting the car AND KEEP YOUR HANDS ------- MOVING, dont stop when you finish your stroke, turn the can to the side and stop, do minimum of 2 coats and itll look so perfect
My car looks pretty **** for under $50
Tremclad rust paint has the best nozzle and the paint ALWAYS lays even and is hard as ---- to run. Aint cheap at $5.29 a can though

You done fucked up that car. The paint coulda been salvaged. And the black wheel lip/flares don't look bad. You know what? Bee initial D and just paint that mugger flat white with tofu written on the side. White would look sick. Or maybe gunmetal, hit up kirk (turboda6) and ask him what paint he used. He painted his Silvia front end rattle canned gunmetalish and it came out clean.

It was just that paint. I picked up some normal color spray paint and it laid down perfect. I just sanded down the gold ---- and wiped her down and laid down my new stuff and it's soo much nicer. It's Rustolium Colonial Red. It's a darker not so bright red. Not blood red but with more coats it would be. Can't even tell it was baller gold. I really wanted a dark orange but all they had was "Safety Orange" and it was toooooo bright. I'm happy with the color. I tested out some "Army Green" they had and didn't really like that either. Next weekend I should be done with it as I'll do a panel a day before I go to work in the afternoon. I'll snag some more tag rags at work too.
The car will be just one color. The fender stuff is just to slow down the rust as it's gonna have fender flares and all the black on the fender will be underneath and not visible. The bumpers will stay flat black but everything else will be colonial red.
No clear coat on it and it's glossy as hell and smooth like glass. Thats only one coat for a trial look

yeah prep work is the beast behind a good paint job. You can have the best paint or painter but if it's shitty prep work it's just wasted paint and time. I'm not trying to have a show car or anything but nice looking from what you can get from a rattle can.
