Default testing motor out of car -

whats the best way to test a motor sitting on the floor in my garage with no distributor on it? leak down ?

you can do compression check too, just apply 12v and gnd to the starter.. (watch for sparks!)

I would do leak down and bring a battery to do the compression. That is about it. Visual inspection I suppose.

I've seen a guy that had a engine and interior harness connected to a d series on a stand with an ECU sitting next to it, and he started it. heh.
