Telling someone you wont help them with their EPIC FAIL automobile
so I have this delima...
There is this local guy who has a DC teg.. He had a turbo ls in it that was Chinese ---- to the max; totally half ass'd together and i somehow managed to pull a miracle and make it run decently (2 hour tune turned into a 3 day weekend fixing their fuckups and finally tuning it). The car was slow; like a lot slower than it should have been and behind my back this guys piece of ---- friends blamed me and my tuning skills; he kept a level head though so we remained in good relations. Well that guy blew his motor about 6 months ago (stock rod thru the block on 25 or more psi on race gas against my advice) and as take the time since then to "build" another motors.. What orignally turned into a reputable shop building his engine and us/him redoing the entire turbo setup has turned into crap... He was going to get his ls block sleeved and get a reputable shop to build an entire shortblock right (i'm not confident enough to build someone elses motors yet) and put together an ls head (cams/springs/reatiners/clips/valves/JGE intake etc) but instead the guy farted around and wound up getting his idiot friend to throw some pistons and rods in another ls block he aquired... I'm 100% certain that that motor is a complete pile of ---- and wont last more than a week... If the guy would have realized you can't half ass these things and you need people that know what hte ---- they're doing to put things together I wouldn't have a problem retuning his car... but my delima is this guy wants me to retune it but I dont want to have my name associated with anything him or his friends do, especially after hearing his friends talking ---- about me and knowing this setup this time is so poorly put together... I know that in the very unlikely even this motor lasts past startup and we go to tune it and somehow it manages to not blow up tuning it it'll go within a week and he'll blame me... So yea; how do you guys that have been doing this a while tell the half-assers of this sport to ---- off... |

i'm going to look at this heap of ---- this evenging when they get it all put together and i'm just going to tell him straight up "i know who built this; i dont have any faith in him" (btw the guy that built this motor has had about 8 or 9 13b's in the last year or so and NONE of them have lasted for more than a month NA) i've already told him that if this guy builds that motor i wont help him at all and now he's lying to me saying this guy diddnt build the motor when i've got word from 2 other sources he has... ---- it i'm not maing enough to justify the stresses involved; he can take that pos to houston and spend $400 and have it blow up on the dyno /edit: and the quiting thing wont work; this is a fairly small town; everyone knows everyone... |

you just simple say I won;t work on your POS no matter how much your willing to pay.
I've had people want tranny work like ISB, simple, bring me the tranny. Then they state "We'll I don't fell like dropping the tranny, how would you charge for that?" $300 just to R&R a tranny, anpother $50 if they want a clutch installed. THANKFULLY the price is high enough they end up pulling the tranny themselves :) |

You're too nice of a guy, and that's the problem. The way you've described it here would lead any of us to understand you aren't touching our car. Being a good guy is different from being a nice guy. Take the hit that you're trying to avoid to, what you think is your character (by telling the guy no, no way, never), and be done with it. I won't blame you.

Ive learned this same thing the hard way. Just tell him your not tuning it. You'd just waste your time setting up on his car and their will be problems he won't pay you anyway and every (crack head honda boi dirt back thief)<----90% of all honda owners. will say your a sucky tuner. Your better of chosing your cars you'll work on. Your rep will grow and you will get more tunes in the end.

Tell him you don't want to risk tuning another stock block that will most likely blow up again and have your reputation tarnished by his -----talking friends.
Tell him nothing personal, but it wouldn't be good business for you and that the last block that blew up on boost you didn't approve already made you look bad. |

Its not that hard to say your busy and dont have the time If thats to hard life is going to be a bumpy road for you. |

just tell him to run this new motor n/a for a while and if it holds up then you guys can talk. tell him like 10k miles or so then if it blows up before that you can tell him thats why you did not want to tune it. i would just be honest and tell him that you not comfortable tuning a poorly put together motor.

lol 10k mi i told him earlier when they called to start the motor up on stock injectors and stock computer to rule out any other issues (car had gm 3 bar, 1000cc inj and crome gold before) but they are running skunk 2 stage 3 cams w/ springs retainers and clips supposedly tho its probably just cams w/ stock springs/ret/clips/valves |

Simple. Tell him to break in the motor on stock ECU and injectors, hold the wastegate open so no boost builds. If it lasts two weeks roll up with compression tester in hand and a flashlight to look at the oil and ---- on the top of his pistons and tell him you can tune it but he has to realise the engine is hurt because it wasn't assembled correctly, machined, etc. Call him on his ---- about who built the engine, ask him why he'd lie to you, why you'd want to sign your name to some piece of crap? He only wants you because you are the only person who put up with his bullshit car the first time around. Make him admit it's going to last 300 miles tops, and then charge him for the extra hassle and work you have to do on it.
As for the friends that talk ---- about you, call them out for it publicly. Ask them who are they, what the ---- do they know, why aren't they tuning the vehicle or why the vehicle isn't properly sorted if they know so goddamn much. Make them look, and realise they are, stupid. ------- slap them in the ------- face like women if they mouth at you. I've done it before, and I know without ever having met you or seeing a picture of you that you are bigger and can fight better than I can. The only difference is I don't give a ----, and it's the best life decision I ever made. |

So being that i'd never really messed with n2o i figured why not... Thing was this ls swapped hatch seemed slower than the d15 that came out of it; he was running it stock for a while so i never really put much thought into diagnosing it; i figured it was just a tired motor... but when we installed the n2o kit we put in some h22 injectors and were retuning it on crome gold... Well initially we had trouble getting gold to keep the nitrous solenoids open constantly so we installed a wot switch and i tuned it on nitrous for wot at about 12.0:1 (50 shot). It still seemed slow but i thoguht maybe it was just me and my ass-dyno needing to be calibrated.... Well a few days after we tune it on n2o he races another guy w/ a stock obd1 ls swapped eg coupe; the coupe murders the M's car even tho m was spraying... THIS was when J and M started talking ---- about my tune... That really pissed me off but i still had another month on our lease and couldnt afford to pay all the bills myself so i had to keep relations up so J wouldn't just stop paying his half... So a week or so rolls by and I go to retune it thinking I made a legitimate mistake; but no the car just runs slow; but one odd thing i notice is fuel peaks at about 2000 rpm and tapers off pretty hardcore to redline so I start thinking maybe the cam timing is wrong... I tell them about it and they deny that the motor had ever even been apart... Well come to find out this guy J had put a head gasket in this motor a few months back before they put it in this eg and the fucktard had installed the intake cam 180 degrees off or maybe it was the exaust; but it was completely wrong.... I wasn't there to see it but i heard through the grapevine that it was fuckt city.... So i retune that car a 2nd time and this time on spray it seems to run like its supposed to but then the bottle goes empty and M never wants to refil it so whatever... Anyway after that fiasco our lease is up and I move out; goodbye and goodridance to J... I pretty much cut all contact with him; stop answering his calls; never call him; never go by his house/shop nothing... forget he exists.... But the son of a bitch is persistant so one night we're out at the local hangout spot (hastings parking lot) and he's there and so are a number of guys that dont like him... well these guys that dont like him are telling me about all the ---- he's been talking about my tunes on the various setups they patch together so i say ---- it; ima confront him... and I do.. i walk up to him and his group of idiots (mostly him; his brother/cousin/some family member; his gf; M; integra guy and a few other unimportant characters and I tell him to his face "WTF is this J... I hear you're STILL talking ---- about my tuning on M's and Integraguys tunes!" which of course he denies especially since there is a crowd of my good friends forming... I call bullshit on him and tell him he can take his 400 blown rx7 motors; shove them up his ass and him and his buddies can find another tuner to make their piles of ---- to work... No major conflict but I wanted the ppl of the town to know he's full of ---- (like they didnt already konw) and that i wouldn't put up with it.. So time goes by and integra guy blows up his motor; he calls me up one day tells me the bad news; says he had nothing to do w/ J's ---- talking (which i believe) and that he wanted to do it right this time... so i tell him what i think his best course of action would be (pay someone to build the motor and buy a real turbo and assocated parts) and he agrees and seems to go about doing just that... FAst forward to today and none of that has happened and we're back to the OP :-/ blah lots of typing for nothing... Moral of the story; ---- idiots; and i hope integra guy is smart enough to realize he fucked up by letting J near his ----... Also JD you could probably beat my ass to a pulp :p i'm like the japanese; i avoid conflict at all costs though i am going to get my concealed handgun permit when i get a handgun; and even if you couldn't physically beat me up you could own me with your knowledge so mush so that i have to kill myself for being humiliated so bad! |
