Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage

Yesterday night I was driving with my friend through a new part of town thats just kinda of being built form the ground up just looking at houses and places etc

Its pretty dark out and shes going pretty fast, maybe 80km in a 60km zone, well I guess she said she didnt see it coming but I felt a swift jerk of the car and some serious metal noise.

I figured she hit a parked car or someshit. She pulled over and I get out, no cars around, but.....

-her exhaust is 10feet behind the car (aftermarket 2.25" system)
-rear bumper hanging by 2 screws, good bit of damage
-rear tire now has SERIOUS camber, like 10-15 degrees its bent right it

I took both the bumper and the exhaust off and left them on the side of the road and she drove me home to get my truck and we went back and picked them up.

There is some SERIOUS damage to her suspension/control arms and the exhaust was to bent to probably salvage, the bumper metled a bit to so she wants a new one. Car has to be towed to a garage, her house was only 2 kms away so she drove it and it drove not bad, I didnt evne lok at the damage really as it was dark

Im sure you guys have bene in this situation before with lowerred hondas before with bent rims and lips and ----. What or who do we bring this up to? The police, the town or the construction company

Also, there were no signs indicating speed, bumpy road, manholes etc. This manhole was a solid 4.5" off the ground, was above my shoe anyways.

Would appreciate any advise

Is it a road they haven't finished paving yet to make the ground level with the SAS?

Odds are you're just screwed.

Call you r insurance company and see what they tell you to do. Of course don't tell them she was speeding. The city/construction company should have insurance to cover this sort of property damage. Talk to your insurance then talk to there's.

I'm betting there is a sign stating the construction somewhere on the street.
