Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
Yesterday night I was driving with my friend through a new part of town thats just kinda of being built form the ground up just looking at houses and places etc
Its pretty dark out and shes going pretty fast, maybe 80km in a 60km zone, well I guess she said she didnt see it coming but I felt a swift jerk of the car and some serious metal noise. I figured she hit a parked car or someshit. She pulled over and I get out, no cars around, but..... -her exhaust is 10feet behind the car (aftermarket 2.25" system) -rear bumper hanging by 2 screws, good bit of damage -rear tire now has SERIOUS camber, like 10-15 degrees its bent right it I took both the bumper and the exhaust off and left them on the side of the road and she drove me home to get my truck and we went back and picked them up. There is some SERIOUS damage to her suspension/control arms and the exhaust was to bent to probably salvage, the bumper metled a bit to so she wants a new one. Car has to be towed to a garage, her house was only 2 kms away so she drove it and it drove not bad, I didnt evne lok at the damage really as it was dark Im sure you guys have bene in this situation before with lowerred hondas before with bent rims and lips and ----. What or who do we bring this up to? The police, the town or the construction company Also, there were no signs indicating speed, bumpy road, manholes etc. This manhole was a solid 4.5" off the ground, was above my shoe anyways. Would appreciate any advise |

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
Call you r insurance company and see what they tell you to do. Of course don't tell them she was speeding. The city/construction company should have insurance to cover this sort of property damage. Talk to your insurance then talk to there's.

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
you're screwed unless you have witnesses or actual proof.
anyone can get into a wreck, then blame the city. no proof=you're screwed |
Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
If the car's suspension was modified at all they will just laugh at you. Take pictures of the car, pothole, and some point of reference (ruler, foot, ect). Unless there were signs posted, you should be able to bitch enough to get it paid for.

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
Im in BC and the city will most times pay for the damage.I know a couple people that got a wheel replaced due to potholes.

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
serves you right faggot 8)

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
They are responsible, you just have to find the right route to take. A pothole claimed my mothers wheel on her mazda 626, my dad figured out what to do and sure enough, filed a report, and they paid for the new wheel and all associated costs.

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
Similar ---- in Federalway WA on i-5. Heading south bound the freeway is all groved and chopped up. I was in the far lane no bump sign and it's not even radiused to soften the blow straight 2" lip at 60 mph. Got home and it looks like I've got 1/2" of toe in on the front of the car. Hope nothing is bent.

Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
well if this street/area is so new then you were probably trespassing on private property.
|
Re: Sue The City? Raised Manhole = Tons Of Damage
HEY LISTEN UP. this has happened to me only not so tons of damage. you go to your city hall, ask for a damage claims form. you fill it out making damn sure you have receipts for everything, the specific time, area, date, the make model of everything. fill it out, only give them copies of the receipts, if they need proof then bring them in and show them to em if its that bad. i'm not sure about canehdia but back here the city had to pay for the damages the road construction had done to my car.
