Substitute for 3M Window Weld

Is there any other brand I can use besides 3M for homemade polyurathane motor mounts. Because no one carry's 3M around here.

where do you live? iraq
I've never done it but just get an other brand just make sure it's polyurethene and it dries hard

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

go to homedepot and get roofing caulk. It's in a black/yellow canister and it is 100% eurathane. I think the name of it is poly.....something.

what mounts are you gonna do it too? i wanted to do it but was thinking about only doing the two easy to reach ones on the sides, think that will help any?

no, it will still be shitty. I have 2 aftermarket mounts on the sides for my b16 swap, and a stock rear mount. the aftermarket ones are stiff as ----, full mounts, but the motor still moves alot.

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

that sucks, i really didn't want to take the rear one off because it looks like a bitch.

To properly install those inserts you need to fill the mounts

oh it is, don't even worry about that one. there are 2 bolts you can get, the third one you have to loosen the rear sub frame to get to.

Thats funny? The directions don't say that?

Then what in the hell holds them in and how would they make any difference? ???Do you just set them near the motor mounts and they stiffen them up? ???

my experiences tell me that you do. I had the inserts and they sucked until I filled them up. And of course the directions wouldn't say "Go to home depot and buy window weld"

Mine seemed fine without it but ok.

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

haha they worked better with weld, because at that point the insrt does nothinjg, just the weld does....

i say hang urself

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

they are intended to be zip tied in. but filling them works better. I prefer aftermarket complete mounts

Serious? They recommend zip ties to install them? Damn, what a great product. I alwasy thought they were supposed to be glued in.

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

nope, they come with little zip tie looking things, like the ones you use to mount a fan to a radiator

hotrex 01-23-2005 12:59 AM

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

mine didnt, liar, well judgin by the quad 9 5 coefficient, and a degree of 7, honda tuning states the zip tie would reduce the vibratory sector by at least 3/4////

good enough for me

motochris 01-23-2005 01:05 AM

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

I was just going to use the window weld instead of the inserts. I know I should get them but, thats still an extra $39 going towards a turbo kit.

Re:Substitute for 3M Window Weld

If you can find a body shop around you, try and see if they have any of that body panel adhesive that they'll sell you...i filled mine with that stuff. Dries up nicely, and feels just like a solid poly mount ;)

The local marine/boating supply store over here has ---- loads of urethane.

I'm going to give this ---- a try:

It's very hard to explain to the 75 year old lady at Ace Hardware that you want to fill your motor mounts with polyurethane to stiffen them up to eliminate wheel hop and decrease 60ft. times in the 1/4 mile. I ended up telling her I was installing a windshield. ::)

Oh, yeah when she asked what I was using it for I wasn't sure what to tell her.

I hate it when they ask what you need it for. Liek when I went to Radio Shack to get 10ohm, 10watt resistors. I know what I[m looking for and there is no reason for them to be asking me what I'm using them for. It's not like they are going to have a damn clue what I'm talking about. Go into Ace looking for parts for a MBC............

i bought my window weld at napa
and out of curiosity i asked at car quest and they could get it there too.

or ebay...

if you look around you can find some 2 part urethane that doesn't take 2 days to cure; though its more expensive.

radio shack is retarded, I take less time finding my own ---- than they do finding it for me. and if you mention you're making something for your car they say they don't have it because they don't carry car ----.

On an ED? no need to loosen the X-member. Remove the fuel filter bracket and go straight down against the firewall w/ a extension. It's worked for me on every one so far.
