Dual boot XP and Vista on my laptop (Core2 2.0 & 2gb Ram)
Vista boots up 3 times faster than xp and runs great.
But the old dos games and some old software only works on xp so I keep it on stand by.

I rocked 2.4ghz dual core, 4gb ram. Vista ran well, but I still went back to XP for simplicity's sake.

Most games at the same video settings run 8-10 FPS faster on XP.

99% of the time vista works pretty good for me at work... My dad bought 10 new computers for our office right when vista came out... lets just say we had some issues for the first 30-90days... ---- that was fun.. now everything works smooth though.

for tuning I use my powerbook on osx and its good 90% of the time (on neptune rtp of course) and then I have an older dell that I use if i need windows.

I have a password remove disc that I downloaded and burned. I just boot off the disc, load windows directory, pick account and delete the password. Works for Vista and every other microsoft OS. Comes in handy, because I fix a lot of computers.
