stupid people

i work at an autoparts store, and this stupid lady came up to me that owned an older plymoth laser or something like that and was looking for a return line for her turbo.

this is how she described it:
"its that line that comes off the turbo and there is pressure going through it, and its leaking, but im not sure cause my mechanic is working on it and i don't know much about cars"

so i asked, how big the tube was, thinking it could be the actual charge pipe.
nope, its a small line
then i asked what it was leaking, and she didnt know what.

so being that i know about turbos, and i happen to be running the very same, if not close turbo on my car i figured out what it was.

she was looking for the oil return line off the turbo to the oil pan.
and she figured we sell these things as stock replacements.

and she also said that her mechanic said that usually when you replace the return line, you also change the pressure line.
and that made no sense to me cause i was thinking that it would be nothing but work to change the steel braided line with fittings, just because the rubber hose off the turbo was leaking.

so i sent her on the way and told her that there is no way i will have in stock or can get a stock replacement oil line for her bitch ass.

i also asked if she knew what size line it was, she didn';t know that. and she said she wasn't able to use just any old rubber oil line hose as the return line, which i had origionally thought that was what you used.

does anyone know what a factory vehicle would use for a return line...would it be molded?

BLACKSI 12-25-2002 10:03 PM

Re:stupid people

the factory return is steel.

how do you keep that job lol

sounds like you gave a lady a hard time cause she didn't know what she was doing. not a very good way to get/keep people coming to that store.

for one, i dont get comission, so i could care less if i never see that hoe again.

this kinda thing gets on my nervs, because its not just this one time this happened, this happends countless times in a day. i mean, why come for parts if you dont have a bloody clue it is that you need?
some people dont even know what kinda vehicle they own, that makes it totally hard to give them any parts.

;D ;D

i work at a parts store too. why the ---- would someone that has no ------ clue what the need come there asking for that part (when they dont know what they need)? better yet why would the mechanic send a retard to get the part...

slightly off topic (but still about retarded people). why if i awnser the phone, on christmas, would someone ask if we are open? why the ---- would i be there, and anwsering phones! if we werent open???? btw this is job #2, i work at a video store too...

I really don't want to start a fight here or anything... i'm just pointing something out... if you worked for me, you'd be outta a job right about now. For every customer you lose, theoretically you lose 10 (friends, relatives, etc..). That is most definately not the attitude to have.

Anyway, just thought i'd mention that. Merry Christmas everyone! ;D

I used to work at a parts place and got the same thing all the time. The worst was when a woman would call and here is how it would go..
Me:What year is your car?
Her:Pause, "Hun, what year is it"?
Me:And what size engine?
Her:Hun, it's a V4 right?
Me:Ok, so what do you need
Her:I think it's the ball bearing...
Me:Ball bearing eh, wanna check with your husband for what you need??
Her:Sure, Hun, it's a ball bearing we need right.
Him:No, (they would always say Ball Joint or Wheel bearing)

---- it was so frustrating...But i always tried to be as patient as possible!

Yo its your job to help the helpless..
People who know what they are looking for arent likely to waste time asking you questions. So you should consider the idiot's "job security" and leave it at that..

I go into these stores and ask for oh say an an fitting... I get asked why do you need this?...

Bitch just get me the ------- part and shut up! >:(
I know what I want and why.. Go help one of the idiots that might actually need your advise. :D

you should of went to the gardening dept, cutt off some green garden hose and gave it to the bitch along with some twist ties. and said "here, here is your oil return line"

Re:stupid people

i think the best thing for these people who have no clue what the damn part is called or what it looks like is to bring the old one in...... heres something funny I got from a friend who works at kragen.

"Apparently this feller was in a local car parts shop when a woman walked in and asked for a seven ten cap. Two blokes behind the counter and our hero looked at each other and one said, "What's a seven ten cap?"

She said "You know, it's right on the engine. Mine got lost somehow and I need a new one."

"What kind of a car is it on?" someone asked. She said a Ford.

"How big is it?" She makes a circle with her hands about 3 1/2 inches in diameter.

"What does it do?" She said she didn't know know, but it had always been there.

Someone gave her a note pad and asked her to draw a picture of it. She drew a circle and in the centre wrote 710.

The blokes behind the counter who are looking at it upside down as she writes, fall about laughing and one goes and gets her an oil cap.

Note: write "710" upside down...

Re:stupid people

What I hate is when the moron behind the counter dosent know anything. Around here you have a hard time finding any parts store with knowledgeable people working there. If they can't look it up on their computer they can't help you. :(

BlackDSM 12-28-2002 03:15 PM

Re:stupid people

First of all, before you get all high and mighty about turbos mr. auto parts store, you might want to research what parts a turbo has on a stock setup. The laser has only steel hard lines for coolant and oil. If you have a honda, you use a stainless line for pressure, and a rubber line for return. The hard lines she was looking for can be ordered by the way. They are pre-bent with flanges and banjo fittings on them.

Sounds like you dont know as much about DSM's as you thought. You probably confused her as much as she confused you. Just cause you use a DSM turbo, doesnt mean that all the parts you used with it work on all cars.

Re:stupid people

i think you people have got the wrong impression of me and how i act at work.

first of all for black dsm, i didn't know what the stock line was made of, and i said to the lady "is it a rubber line" and i also asked in the first post i made in this thread what the stock line in fact was made of.

why the flaming, sheesh man, take a pill.
and btw, no i can't order it in, maybe you can, but i can't. trust me. its not available. the only place in town that could get it is the dealership.

i wasn't mean to the lady or anything, i didn't swear, i didn't raise my voice, i didn't sound cocky.

she was getting mad at me because we didn't stock the item, and that wasn't a good enough answer to her, she needed it now.

the point of the post was why do people come in for parts just expecting parts workers to know exactly what it is.

and id also like to point out that i was the only person that works in my parts department that could have even figured out that she was talking about the oil return line.

the fact of the matter is, she came into a small parts department that sells popular replacement parts for popular vehicles, like gm trucks, and she expected me to have stock on factory turbo system parts right on my store location and sell her one on the spot because the dealership was closed that day.

even if it was available from me, which it isn;t, i would still have to order it in.

i never lost that customer, because she was never a customer, and there was no way i could have changed that. i didn't have the part, and i told her that, and i tried to help her the best i could, and told her where to get the part. i dunno how you think i am a bad worker.

that hurts man :-X

It's cool man I am a manager at an auto parts store, and I get idiots in there all the time. I feel your pain man! I used to have jack-asses like Jeff and Beau coming in to give me a bad time about parts. :) Now those are tough customers!

I hate to say it, but your the stupid one. People come there for your help with this stuff, and you put them done because they don't know anything. That's why you work there. Your the one that wanted to learn about the stuff and help people get what their cars need. If you can't handle that maybe you should get a job bagging groceries.

Re:stupid people

I had a really disturbing experience working in a hardware store (plumbing department) in Houston TX. I'm a very polite person, especially at work. This old guy walked in and the conversation went out somewaht like this:
ME: Good morning sir, can I assist you with anything? HIM: Yes, I need to see if you have what I'm looking for?
(The old guy kept walking and I was walking beside him)
ME: Okay sir, what are you looking for?
HIM: A replacement hose for my sink.
(still walking)
ME: Do you have a flare or compression type?
HIM: Flare
(still walking)
ME: What size?
HIM: Flare
ME: Yes sir, but what size?
(He stopped walking....... I'm still walking)
........and this is what he said in front of a few co-workers and customers:
"CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND FU&%ING ENGLISH, I SAID FLARE!!!!! LEARN FU$%ING ENGLISH BEFORE YOU START WORKING IN A PLACE LIKE THIS!!!!!"

I was stunned! Cuz, I do have an accent (I'm Filipino), not a very thick accent tho.

I looked over my shoulder and everybody is looking at me. I took a deep breath, then I said, "Sir, I'm just trying to help and I do understand english!!!" The store owner stepped-in before I could open my mouth some more. I do not know happened afterwards but the owner said he took care of it.....

man if that got you worked up, dont even think of working at a grocery store. i work at albertson's, and people piss and moan about the new savings card all the time. or like on chrsitmas day they were mad because we were out of apple pies. what the hell do you expect! it's christmas freakin day! or how they get mad when i say they can't get $400 cashback on their debit card. what are we a freaking bank or what? or they get mad when we are out of postage stamps. do i look like i work at a post office? uh, no. last i checked you were in a grocery store. go to the damn post office.

Turbo-Dan 12-29-2002 07:26 PM

Re:stupid people

its funny tho, like people will look at flyers and come in and ask why their brake pads are not worth $8.50 like it says in the flyer, and i have to point out that it says "$8.50 and up"

and this other guy came in and looked up at the flourescent lights on the ceiling and says to me:
"man thoes are bright, how do you look at thoes?"

ive got millions of stories.
none better than the 710 cap one though.

Stupid people are the coolest thing ever!! If it wasent for stupid people, my job would suck!... anyway.. I worked at wal-Fart about a year ago and i swear to all that is holy, that stupid peolpe ONLY shop at Mall-mart. I worked in electronics dep and had people ask and say the dumbest ---- ever, the most commen was" Do you have any colore and black & white ink for my printer?"... My respons " Well I have good news and bad news, we have colore and black but were all out of white".. I'd have people laught or get really pissed but 90% of the time I'd get a blank stare. But thats just the top of the iceburg. A lady once said to me, I'm looking for this thing for her husband....... THATS ALL SHE SAID TO ME!! "Well, whats that?" I say, trying to figure out if this chick is HIgh or sumthin." It's uh thing that you put a vhs tape in too." she says. First thing that comes to mind is a VCR, right? "no, it doesnt play it, it turns the tape."It turns the tape"I say, trying to keep the sarcasum to a minumum. After a moment of silance, I realize she's talking about a tape rewinder, so I go and reach for one and give it to her. " No, not one for CD's." She say.... Man, could go on and on..

I do tech support for a bank... I am lucky though and only get a few calls a day so I mostly just sleep and surf the web. Usually the really dumb ones are extremly old people that only have a computer so they can do banking online. Sometimes I have to explain how to use a mouse. Sometimes I have to explain how to type with that funny thing in front of them that has letters on it. If I try to use any kind of computer terms like desktop, browser, operating system, internet provider, etc... they think I am talking in some weird langauge. And if I even ask a question the answer is usually I got a dell or I got aol. I can't stand those words because that usually means the only thing they know how to do is push the power button. I have to be nice though because all my calls are recorded >:(

Plese people learn how to use your copmuter before you call tech support!

Those are some good stories guys, Especially the "710" cap...
I'm a full-time Network Admin, and I've seen some good ones, ones we like to call an "ID-Ten-T" error, "ID10T" heh

But I did to telephone Tech support for a major Dial-Up ISP, and OMG it was horrid... the most retarded fucks on the planet, but it was cool, I tried to be patient with them...

One time I did get a "cupholder" call, when I told him to use the installation CD-ROM, he mentioned something about the built-in cupholder, not sure if he was serious or not hehe...

Crazy Stuff.

Re:stupid people

Yes normally telephone tech support is a gay job if you have calls back to back, but I only get a few calls a day maybe 5 if it's busy. ---- sometimes I don't get a call all day. So I basically get paid to surf the web and sleep... I only work part time though so I don't get paid ----... 9 buck and hour 4 hours a day. It's no biggie though since I am still in college and live with my folks (free rent, free food, etc...) And I am not joking about the sleeping... actually I think I might take a nap right now ;D

This is the easiest job I will ever have so I am going to milk it as long as I can.
