stock radio's and keyless entry??
does anyone know if you do or do not have to have the stock honda head unit to be able to use your keyless entry (this only applies to vehicles with keyless entry obviously). when i bought my car, it had an aftermarket cd player, and i got no remote for the keyless entry. after doing some research, i found out that all 00 si's are equipped with keyless entry, but it works off of the anti-theft device in the factory head unit o.k., so i buy some keyless remotes with plans of getting a factory radio also. well, i've been told by numerous people that this is the case. i won (well, won the auction) a factory cd player off ebay. i was talking to the guy that i'm buying it from explaining to him why i wanted one so bad, and he said that they stopped doing that in 98, that you could in fact use keyless entry on 99+ hondas without the stock radio?? does anyone have any experience/truth to this??

Same thing happened to me with my 97 ex, I got a keyless entry beeper and went to the honda dealer to get it programed, the guy told me that I needed to keep my stock radio for the keyless entry to work, that if I got a cd player I needed to keep the stock radio like behind the dash somewhere for it to work. But I think he did say that they stopped in 98. Call the dealer they should know.

hrrrrrmmmmmmmm..... that's weird because i went to the dealership one day to pick some stuff up and i did ask the service guy, and he said yeah, you had to keep the stock radio, but i din't specify the year of the vehicle, but then again, he didn't ask. everyone i have talked to said you had to use it, but the guy i'm getting the radio from, said he could use his keyless entry with an aftermarket radio in a 00 ex, and i have a 00 si, so it's more than likely the same set up.

yes, I know that for the 99 model they redid the interior a little and the computer is like OBD2b or something, so there are definately changes in the wiring, also you cannot swap the middle dash part because the wirings for the radio, the air controls etc are different. So it makes sense that it would or could have change in 99. But for sure, my 97 ex did not work after I put a cd player in it.

damn! i bought the keyless remotes, but never even tried to program them because i didn't have the radio, so i just bought a stock cd player for 80 bucks, and i bet if i go program my keyless entry right now, they'll prolly work :P oh well, the cd player the guy had in there is like a 1985 kenwood piece of ----, the stock will look better anyways, with that sexy orange back light to match my cluster and control lights

Re:stock radio's and keyless entry??
Your DEFINITIVE answer is NO!! You can have an aftermarket stereo in your 00 Si an dutilize factory keyless. How do I know, I'm an MECP installer and I do this for a living. The whole stuffing the radio thing is only for 96-98 Civics with factory keyless entry. Any questions hit me up.
