SSAUTOCHROME

so, i have heard all this bad stuff about ssautochrome, so i decided to check it out myself. well, they have a 98%+ feedback rating. so which is it? they suck ----, or they have 98% satisfacton. thats better then gieco ;).

I only want to hear from people who have actually bought from them, good or bad. thought this would be a way to get the truth out about the quality of product, so less people fall victim to crappy parts.

FooK 01-25-2005 11:33 PM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

people give feedback without testing the product, it arrives in the mail and they say yay!

a percentage doesnt say everything either, look at the actual positive/negative numbers

2% of 100,000 people is still 2000 people saying they suck.

For the record, I would rock their wastegates/bov's, and thats about it.

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

They get the product and leave positive feedback before they use it. It cracks 2-3 months later and they're SOL.

I've heard their wastegates are decent... Anyone have experience with them?

I would rock their manifold after I reweld it.

civiczc is using one, holds steady, no spikes or creeping.

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

dude... did you NOT see the manifold recently posted on the site? the wg flange broke straight off the manifold after only 1k miles... less then 2 months... turbo's dropping, turbo even splitting in two held together with glue? u do the math or test it out our selves then let us kno if ur another one of the unsatisfied customers or one of the lucky ones.. or u can buy it, weld the ---- outa it and hope it holds... or u could use that money on buying supplies to make your own since u gotta weld it to hold up anyway...

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

I've used there manifold and wG since late August, and no problems. But since the weekend I have changed it out and put in a new cast iron one. When I had it, it worked fine. no prblems. But the thought of it breaking on me made me change it.
Ever since i saw that post here not too long ago, of the broken manifold. I think it linked to hondatech.

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

the weekness of the manifolds are the welds. they welded stainless to steel with some ---- rods. i had mine retigged with "super missle rod" and it is holding great. the new rod is made for welding two differant metals together. i guess thats why it is $20 a lb. if you buy one because the price is cheap (that will probobly be the olny reason) make sure you know somebody who can tig weld and get some of that rod.

p.s
i'll let you know when mine breaks ;)

I have their wastegate and I took a Tial and ssauto apart and they were identical.

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

ive got 10k miles on a ssautoshit wg, it works mint with no spiking,

id use everything except their manifolds and turbos

djfob 01-26-2005 02:00 AM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

I'd even use their mani as long as I braced the turbo to take the weight of mani.

yeah, people leave feed back when they get thier ----, not when they install it.

hotrex 01-26-2005 02:32 AM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

nope, even if the mani doesnt crack, the collector, and flow to the wg, is ------- terrible, ive handled one first hand, sub par bullshit

I used one for 1 year and 3 months, maybe i got a good one, i dont know, i would buy another one if i was on a budget operation again!

I just upgraded to a shitbird just cos i like the look!

bluesiflynby 01-26-2005 05:54 AM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

well man hey i bought kevins off him, their aight if you brace the ---- out of them. i took my mani. to the welding shop on base and they torched all the flanges off and rewelded its straight now but after about 3 months that bitch surelly wont be shinny anymore.

davcivic 01-26-2005 06:18 AM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

Like they said, people receive an item, and leave positive feedback, inmediately. then it breaks in 2-3 months.

I just purchased a wastegate, it'll get here today, just because people have used them and they work good, same thing with the BOVs.

Look on ebay for the OBX manifolds, those look like the ssautochromes, but they are made better. They have the OBX racing plate welded on the collector. They make them for D and B series, but they don't come up on ebay often. Look them up, and get one of those. I've seen them for $200 + S&H

slowcivic 01-27-2005 12:42 PM

that is all the more people that have actual first hand experience with SS?

people here are smart.

if you wanna see a bunch of people dumb enough to buy ss autoshit manifold that will tell you about it, post on H-T

slowcivic 01-27-2005 01:45 PM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

i was trying to be objective about it. and if i went to H-T what good would that do me? they are discussing 18" wheels on a civic like its actually a debate.

here's a pick of what happened to my ssautochrome manifold after only 800 miles of break-in at 0 psi and staying under 4,000 rpm's:

http://www.wrteam.com/dave2.jpg

the only good thing was they immediately sent me a new one & it already came braced.

I only gave them positive feedback for their good customer service, not their product. If I would've tested the manifold out first; things would've been different.

DAVe 01-27-2005 01:58 PM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

also, i would like to add that I don't feel that the positioning of the wastegate is very good. I am having a hell of a time tuning it at high throttle. The WG is rated to hold at 7psi, but when i get to 7000 rpms at WOT, boost creeps to 14psi!!

slowcivic 01-27-2005 01:59 PM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

^^thats not very pretty now is it? but they sent you a new one you say, is the new one different besides for the brace? I thought at one point they were selling OBX manifolds, then they changed to something else? I dunno.

The whole D16 turbo kit. :-[

After watching his auctions for a while I figured out that it would be cheaper to buy the whole kit at $499 and sell the unwanted parts(I just wanted the turbo)instead of buying the turbo which was ending around $400 on average. I sold the WG for $100(I should have kept that)and sold the turbo for $400 and kept the manifold(I think I got confused at what my original purpose was?). So I got a piece of ---- SSauto mani for free. :-\ I was going to use the turbo, but I didn't want to install it and have it take a ---- on me and then be stuck with a paperweight instead of being able to sell it to some other poor ------- on Egay. :-\

lol, I was thinking about making some extra cash on the side by doing that, but I didn't want to be responsible for the shitty SSauto turbos falling apart and the manifolds breaking in half. I have a conscience. :-\

BTW, your e-check cleared this afternoon. so i will be getting that stuff out to you. I was going to send you a PM, but you dont check them. you should delete those every now and again.

My friend has been using a SS manifold for just over a year now, hasnt had any problems with it (its braced).

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

Damn skippy. My manifolds are best when used by 2/28/06. After that, I can't really guarantee anything. Except for a free turbo put together with my special epoxy.

ssauto has lots of positive feed back, and i have only heard 2 people with complaints on here.

davcivic 01-28-2005 06:48 PM

Re:SSAUTOCHROME

Are you seriously thinking of buying one?
come on man, get the OBX if you want to get a tubular manifold. Same price on ebay.

Do something. see if you can go to his feedback and e-mail all the buyers and ask them about the manifold and how it's working.

Again the positive feedback is left when the item arrives, you look at it and say, cool looks good, got here quick, I'll leave a positive feedback. 3 months later, vroomm, crack, exhaust leak, no boost, you check your car, no manifold.
