Spotted new Camaro..

One of the Engineers is driving it. SS model with a 6.0L and a 6spd. Has a real VIN on it so it's a production version. There is a Non-production silver Camaro around oshawa with a Z06 7.0L 505 Hp motor. It has RS badges on it , but GM perf Zo6 badged ont he front fenders (where the camaro would be) It sounds like a angry dump truck.

Yea, I work for GM

you mean the asian guy who designed it for GM didn't capture the muslecar ara correctly?

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

Eh, I don't think they look too bad.

Would rather see those than the mustang I've seen a billion times. Challengers are pretty nice-looking, but the cheap base-model some dude at work has made me start to dislike them due to how plain his looks :(

There's a video on streetfre of a guy who took a brand new one and had it built with twn blowers, cam, etc. Sounds like sex.

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

I worked for chrysler on the ad campaign for the new Challenger a little over a year ago. Between the 2 cars (style wise) I think the challenger wins, but there are some guys who are biased and will just get a chevy

I think both cars at 3800-4000 Lbs do a great job of selling a 2005 + Mustang GT. IT's 300-500 Lb less , sure it's got no IRS , but it's 12 grand used and I think does a better job capturing the look then the camaro... Im not even a dodge guy and the Challenger is pure sex.... nicely based on a E class as well.

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

I like the retromod nostalgia thing, but I think the Mustang does the poorest job of capturing the styling. I like the previous bodystyle best.

I don't know a whole lot about the newer Dodges. Meh.

Yes because all the new cars the other companies are coming out with look 10X better :l

Yeah me too. I would be happy with a 68 Camaro clone with a little rounder edges and updated interior/engine. Leave everything else alone.

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

all 3 fail
the new 2010 mustang is ugly (which is sad i really liked the look of the 2005-2009 body style)
the new challenger is sick looking and it's cool even the v6 has the hood scoops but it's just to heavy for anything less than the r/t
and the camaro is pretty sweet, it does not look to bad and i like the using the di hf 3.6v6 but allong with the challenger it's just to heavy

but the real problem i see with all three is the fact that they are trying to make the cars nostalgic and replicate a modern rendition of the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's but the thing is back then you could get a base camaro (or mustang or challenger) with radio,ac,carpet, floor mat, and more delete which lightened the cars (thus making them faster) which allowed them to be cheaper thus allowing them to appeal to a larger market and allow the buyers money to go to the engine and transmission of their choice
now days if you buy a mustang and want a v8 you can't get a base mustang with a v8 and a 5 speed you have to get a gt which includes bigger wheels, leather seats, and all kinds of bullshit not everyone wants
i honostly think if they make it to where you can order cars like you used to be able to (and should still considering the price of a new car now)
then they auto market would go up, more people would spend their money on buying a new car and getting exacly what they want instead of leasing a generic suv or somthing and just settling for decent transportation because it's only $250 a month

i know i would have bought a g8 gt if i could get it with cloth interior and a 5/6 speed manual tranny
without the fancy radio and navigation and stc, tcs, abs, all that bullshit
worst part is if they got rid of the bullshit they could sell the cars for allot less

so to all auto manufactures
allow the people to buy your cars the way they want them not the generic carbon coppies of eachother that you are selling (but hey this one is blue.....)
it's like going to a japan and ordering a steak yeah technically it's a steak but it's not the same as in texas

Jorsher 01-24-2009 10:55 PM

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

That'd be nice newb, and I wish more manufacturers would give more options as far as what I do/don't want, but it won't happen.

They use the more powerful engines to drive up what they can charge out the door. IE, if you want the top model, you're going to have to pay for it. I doubt they want a lot of people getting the beastly models for only slightly more than the base model.

Last time I checked you can special order cars. Not sure if you still can.

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

It's called economies of scale.

It's cheaper to make 1 part (leather seats) and shove it into 100,000 vehicles. Rather then building niche versions for a select few. Very few of todays consumers care about weight, and they want "more" in a car in terms of gadgets.

Plus the demographic they are aiming towards were in in their early teens when the original versions were new. 20 somethings's aren't the people they are geared towards, the core demographic is 38-60.

yeah
but only to the extent of picking from a few defined colors (interior and exterior)
a couple option boxes such as navigation
and if your getting the base model you can opt for the larger wheels that come on the more expensive model
that is literally all you can pick from

it's completely bullshit

you can get different engines
but you cant just get a different engine
you get a diffent "package"
just like a mustang comes with a v6 now and a mustang gt comes with a v8
you can't order a mustang with a v8 would it being a gt
remember when gt and rt and ss were just sticker packages?
and drive trains were just that?

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

U can order a new camaro as a "Body in White" a stripped out car with no capret , sound insulation, or much of anything in it. The 2% of consumers who want a stripped out car, or who can't afford the V8 version aren't worth the tooling up for another version.

the base car is 304Hp and has a 6 spd.

With the current state of the economy, fuel regulations, and issues with the big 3 -- don't count on it.

Details. How much does that cost?

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

The Body in white programs are nostalgia as it gets, thats how the factories used to sell production race cars to the racers. All 3 of the companies are doing something of the sort, Ford has the new Cobra Jet racecar, Dodge has a race version of the challenger and I guess the camaro is being offered up as well to the racers. None are street legal to my knowledge.

They're nearly impossible to get, the ford stickers for $69,000 and is just about ready to race, but you've gotta be somebody to get one, not just anybody walking off the streets. All the challengers I believe have been spoken for they were less coin $30 something i believe but needed more "work" to be on the track. You had to apply to Chrysler and be accepted in order to get one them as well, I read the application, they wanted listings of various big events/championships you have won racing and the like. These cars are going to real racers who will win, not Joe schmo.

I would rock the ---- out of a new challenger, the 6 speed 5.7's have been in the high 12's @108ish 100% stock. A tune and some decent tires and its a low 12 second daily driver for significantly less than the SRT versions.

obongoooo signed a EO today reversing bush's EO.

so now the states can have stricter emissions/mileage/etc requirements than the feds. of course kalifonia and other large states will jack theirs through the roof, and force companies to build to them, since they are the largest markets. not to mention making cars more expensive, costing car sales, cutting profits, costing jobs...

ooobongo and other socialists are purposely destroying the personal car under the guise of global warming to attempt to force everyone to use government run transportation, they can socially engineer the population.

more public transportation = more money, more money = more taxes, more taxes = more control, more control = more tyranny... more reliance on government... more job security for govt losers

Also, the car in white programs ad 1Fat68 explained them are bullshit. Either I can walk into my local dealership and get one, or I can't.

I will grab more info tomorrow.

Anyone can buy a body in white from a dealership. A good friend of the family runs the 1 lap and used ot have a body in white 98 trans am ordered right from the local dealership.

I know of a 87 GTA body in white from the players race series sitting behind a corner store out in the country not too far from my house.

All this hoopla over fords new drag pac Mustang and the drag challenger..GM had stripped out versions 20 years ago.

Johnny, I'm going to say it. You are a ------- ------- idiot.

You claim you want a smaller federal gov't. You claim you want state gov't to have more control. When Obama gives state gov't more control, and does something very REPUBLICAN, you bitch as if it is a socialist agenda. Move somewhere else if you think your state is going to increase restrictions. Simple as that. Car companies offer different cars for England than they do Germany. They offer different cars for France than they do Russia. What makes this any different?

are you retarded? no turbo honda will pass these strict emissions standards. what will you do then? dumbass.

Tom-Guy 01-26-2009 11:59 PM

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

What strict emissions standards? Emissions enforcement in NC is a county by county thing... one of the adjacent counties doesn't do scantool emissions (my county does, but no 4/5 gas or dyno emissions) on OBD2 vehicles, if you look like you have a cat you can go.

Also, through the early 2000s there aren't many fresh engine Hondas that don't pass 4/5 gas emissions with no cats. ----, they were doing it in the FMU days in Cali. Educate yourself on the machines, Johnny.

Re: Spotted new Camaro..

I've never had emissions tested.

I go online, pay $25 for tags, and the convenience fee.

I get my tags, and drive, burning as much oil as gas.
