Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

BTW random, no offence but you tend to falsify info to make your case the strongest. IMO the gamecube is the fastest and i belive that is due to the better software coding and the size of data on the disk. BTW teh PSX is more than just agamin system, its what mickysoft has been trying to do for years, BE the entire entertainment center, so you not just buying the game system, your buying a TV tuner, VCR( tv replay deal), DVD player, and it looks as though it has a burner in it as well. And it uses standard cableing for once.

J-SMITH69 12-28-2003 05:26 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

lol i didn't false-ify anything. i took those straight off websites.

xbox works in 32bit. gamecube 24bit, ps2 32bit

xbox
Polygon Performance: 125 M/sec
Sustained Polygon Performance: 100+ M/sec (transformed and lit polygons per second)

ps2
Maximum Polygon Rate: 75 Million Polygons Per Second

i really couldn't see nintendo making better software than every single company on the earth that makes ps2 and xbox games.

i'll trust you and believe the gcube loads ---- faster, but it also doesn't have the same quality as a xbox...

what did nintendo do that is better/faster than c++ & directX

xbox uses win2000/winNT type OS right? windows NT isn't slow

xbox plays DVDs and mp3s

OnYx 12-28-2003 05:28 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

I honestly dont notice seeing that most game companys WILL make only one version of the game and not make it preform better on the xbox or the ps2. Nintendo makes there own games for the ---- for the most part. and NT is slow as ----. Compaired to linux or any other OS out there NT is SLOOOWWW and crashes alot. I see this all the time being a system admin. no calls from the unix/linux/mac people, its all windows users nad we have a fair ammount of each on the network. PS2 plays dvds WITHOUT having to buy a damn controller as music and i think it plays MP3's.

J-SMITH69 12-28-2003 05:34 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

alright i gotta go to bed but i had windows 2000 for like 3 years and it never crashed...

windows has to flex to soooooo many different types of hardware and software... thats where problems come from, its not that windows "sucks" compared to linux/MAC. but red hat and apple do not have the aftermarket that a windows based PC does.

people say this all the time but its just hard to compare a windows system to a mac system just because the windows system has SOOO many different types of hardware and software, it has to work with them all. and when problems happen with 150 out of 5.6billion types of hardware and software its not really that bad...

the beauty of microsoft is the "aftermarket" is created a HUGE industry. if it were up to MAC only apple would make money... less movement of money... less for the economy... less jobs... less money for the government... less everything. more money for fruityass steve jobs though lol

OnYx 12-28-2003 05:38 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

that still doent explain linux, linux flexses more tahn windows ever well. they handle really old hardware and the new stuff as well. BTW direct X is jsut a subset of commands, linux has already duplicated this set of commands and is able to run windows games and most programs.

bambooseven 12-28-2003 05:38 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

the X box is better, which pisses me off. but games like Halo 2 could never be possible on a PS2 nor a GC, at least with that type of quality. The one thing the Ps2 has that keeps me loving it, is publishers (which isn't as much of a problem for MS as it used to be) and ergonomics, out of the three new-gen systems the good-ol' PS controller feels by far the best. the gamecube shouldn't even be compared to the other two, it is a good system, but it is/was made for a much younger target audience then the PS2 and the X-box and it shows. games like super monkey ball are great, but i'll be damned if I ever see a decent adult type game on GC that wasn't ported to it.

BTW, the super nintendo is far better then any of the three. I'm playing Final Fantasy 6 (for the 937974th time) and it whoops the ass of anything put out since the mid 90's

J-SMITH69 12-28-2003 05:39 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

i know directX is an api

linux/unix is fine

guess it was just an act of god that windows became so popular. oh wait it was bill gates forcing windows on ppl from his parents garage by wielding his huge monopoly...

lol :P

i like super nintendo too... super black bass is the greatest game ever :P

well that and that one donkey kong game where you could ride in the mining cars or whatever..

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation)

I have one of every cartridge based non-portable system ever made, down to the magnavox oddysey 2, turbo grafX 16, all three versions of the sega genesis, sega master system, famicom (w/ disk system), Sfamicom, front loading and two toploading NES (with 511 out of 711 liscensed games + a bunch of unlicensed and tengen games, and every acsessory that ever came out for it, in every variation, like my ROB robot, and both the small and Large power gloves),a SNES and SNES2 i don't have a coleco vision, but i have a reason for not getting one and i'd get made fun of for it (it has to do with my being vegan), and about 20 other systems most of which people don't know of.

as for atari I have an atari 400 (the programmer) an 800 (the newer model) a 2600

the only CD systems I own are ones that can attach to my cartridge based ones, I have both the front(rare) and top loading sega CD's and a turbo CD attachment.

I am Uber dork.

I even have a pokemon snap machine (the print station)

just a bad number under the threat level, being superstitious lol .. BTW i was on my way getting all the older systems there jsut hard to come by. Hell a year ago on EBAY a 2600 would sell for $150 with 5 games, it was insane.

bambooseven 12-28-2003 06:15 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation) The Random/Onyx thread

try finding a 2600 black case version, or the toploading NES with the RCA cable ports (sometimes you luck out on those). the hardest to find for me was the oddysey in such good condition, i finally found one at a thrift store for $25 in the OG box, in the OG plastic bags, with OG zipties on the controller wires , and also (get this) including the warranty and registration cards both which were printed on the old computer punch card things (the ones with the holes they used to write binary on and have a whole box for a few bits of info)

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation) The Random/Onyx thread

Xbox, PS2, gamecube are all trying to catch up to computers.

You already have a computer and more software comes out for it and you can download it for free yet everyone loves home systems. You can hook the system up to your TV and home entertainment system too......

Maybe im just stupid, but i think a computer beats all of the systems by far. I dont have xbox, ps2, gamecube, or a computer that can play games though :P

crxrx7 12-28-2003 09:27 AM

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation) The Random/Onyx thread

I think this is a dumb argument. If you like ps2. play ps2 If you lke xbox. play xbox. To most people it's the games that matter the most. I could have a really fast gaming system but not want to play it cus the games suck. But for the nerds out there thast want to impress the ladies with some polygons p/sec numbers, this is a great thread to get layed to. I I know I am going to get some flak on this but don't waste your time. I will never come to this thread again. Have fun gaming and don't argue please. Thanks

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation) The Random/Onyx thread

IMO, xbox seems to have smoother graphics and a built in hard drive is a plus........

but it all comes down to controllers and PS2 analog controllers cannot be beaten for button placement, ergonomics, and everything else.

XBOX controllers suck, gamecube controllers REALLY suck.

Re:Sony PSX ( the new playstation) The Random/Onyx thread

I saw the PSX a couple months ago and dismissed it because I think the whole concept it gay. And for 900 bucks.. you gotta be kidding.

As a PVR its going to suck ass, because Q1 of 2004 High Definition PVR's from Tivo will be out!!! Which is why I've been holding out on a Tivo for like 2 years now. I own a 65" Toshiba widescreen and normal Tivo looks like poopoo.

My Ps2 has been in the closet for like 3 months now, I'd sell it but its just not worth much money considering what I have into it.

Xbox > Game Piracy .. nothing like putting the games right to hard disk
Xbox > Online play (which is all I do)
Xbox > Speed & Graphics quuality (esp with a Component cable and some high defininition games!)
Xbox > Controller IMO

And now that Rockstar said FU to sony and released everything for Xbox.. whats the point of the ps2 anymore?

I would guess thats due to the fact that even tho ps2 is the 'lesser' system, theres about 20 more million of them in households right now.
