sold a car, buyer called and complaned faggot keeps calling now says tranny died

So I recently bought a 95 lumnia (ugh) with the sole intention on reselling it. A friend of mine owned it and it had been sitting since he got his new car a year or so ago. He recently moved and had to get rid of it so I bought it for $150. I jump started it and drove it to another friends house since my driveway is full. I posted it on craigslist for $1000 obo and this guy emailed me 4 times about it the next day so i figured he was pretty interested. Anyway he comes and looks at the car and takes it for a ride and ends up giving me $750 for it (more than i was expecting to get anyhow) Anyway he just called and was complaining about some stuff that is wrong with the car. The brake lights dont work because of a bad turn signal switch (common issue) he knew about that on the test drive. And he said it blew a brake line while he was "testing" the brakes. I told him the car had been sitting when he drove it and to be easy on the brakes. What should I do?

Cliffs:
sold a car on cl buyer knew it had been sitting and had some issues buyer calls afterward complaining.

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

It's a car that's been sitting, and sold for under a grand. If he doesn't know what that entails then maybe he should buy a new car with a warranty, or at least a brand with a reputation for solid engineering and reliability.

---- him, imo.. did you get a bill of sale, with "as is" in there somewhere

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

yeah ---- that tell him he bought it as is for under a grand obviously if it was in mint condition and needed nothing then it would sell for more than a 1000. well then again it is a lumina so never mind you ripped him off

It's a 15+ year old car, "as is" is implied.

Thats what i thought. most private party cars are as is where is and he had plenty of time to look it over. ---- I only had the car for 2 days and I told him exactly what i found wrong in those 2 days and told him it had sat a while. The guy even told me he had to fix the same stuff that was wrong with it on his last one. He has owned 3 the car he came to look at it in was a green 96 lumnia lol

As far as I'm confused, when you buy a used car, its a buyer beware, sold as is purchase. Ask as many questions as possible during the test drive, but once you pay for it, you assume all responsibilities.

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

You mean concerned? :P

I agree, once you sign the papers and its yours, so are all the problems with it. ---- the dude that bought it, you can't expect things to be in perfect working order when paying that much for a ------- car. Like Rob just said in another thread, "you get what you pay for."

My thoughts.

I checked what a Lumina SE (car, not minivan, higer of the two trim levels) was worth with 3.1, automatic, and 100K on the clock was worth on kbb.com. Private party values are $775 in fair condition, $1125 in good condition, and something like $1275 in Excellent condition.

Tell him he saved $25 by getting it for $750, and if he has buyers remorse he needs to spend the extra $500 next time. :8

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

Yeah, when you buy a used car its AS IS unless otherwise stated. Next time he bothers you, sue him for harassment. I bought a Mitsubishi mighty max for $400 once, and on the drive home the ------- motor blew up. there is legally nothing I could have none, him either. so laugh in his face and tell him to be more careful next time.

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

Give him the number of a local repair place, or offer to buy it back from him for $125 now that he fucked it up. Dude knew what he was getting so it's all fair, I don't see why he expects you to fix a car you don't own?

MAYBE, if YOU feel bad about it, knock him back $100 and tell him to leave you alone. That'll probably just make him whine even more though. Sounds like he's just looking for handouts.

i bought a '91 cutlass when i was in highschool and the shift servos fucked and only had 1-2 after 3 weeks and like 250mi, the seller would not acknowledge it, nor did he take responsibility for his work (he was a garage) i sold the car to a junkyard filled the engine with atf and drove it there, locking it up in the lot and having to floor it for the last 5mi because atf does not lubricate an engine :D

but i bet that fucker was SPOTLESS after 25mi of atf running through it at 4500rpm :D :D :D

just spend 12 bucks or w/e to buy a replacement breakline and fix it for him

tell him other than that your not giving him anymore money off and that you already knocked 250 off the price for him

make sure you let him know your changing it only because you felt like being nice but that he test drove the car and saw everything before he bought it

12 bucks i think is the prebent crap

economy is crap you made out like a thief on that sale. so why not help the dude out?

Because then he loses all profit on the deal, which defies the reason for buying a shitwagon for resale.

Also, prebent hardline doesn't blow, the 15 year old rubber flex line blew. Costs more than you think. ::)

How do you think car dealers make money?

No wonder you make sub-$8/hour cleaning floors, and can't move up in the world.

shady car dealers who are known for being shady? who coined words like car dealer fix and band daid fix for cars?

or good dealers with multipoint inspections and offer warranties?

why are you even comparing dealers to a dude who bought a car for 150 and resold for 750?

so i need to rip people off to move up in the world.. gotchya!!!

do you listen to yourself when you talk? or are you just being super ------- crabby because you fail at building a hmt garage?

Re: sold a car, buyer called and complaned

I sold a car to a kid for $1800 who blew up the engine 10 minutes later (going over 120 mph when it blew up, by the way). I told him the engine needed replaced, had a replacement for him, he would not listen to "it's a ticking time bomb, this car NEEDS a new engine, come with a tow truck". He got dropped off at my house by a friend of his, tried driving the car back. I was nice enough to tow him to my mechanics and aftwards basically told him to eat a dick and that it wasn't my concern if he was too stupid to not listen to me that the car was not going to make it more than a few miles. I then later bought the car back for $500, did nothing to it really, and flipped it for $1400. Chris (o.p.) works the same way I do...and I feel he has no obligation towards the guy at all. I made $500 the first time I sold the car after I bombed the ---- out of the engine, and the last time I sold that car I sold it for $900 more with nothing done to it by me.

I'd like to think we have a good head on our shoulders, more than anything...

Its a shed. This is the south. Not one sobre hour has been spent on it.

And besides, the 1/4 of a single wide trailer across the driveway is going to be the garage. :P

No, I haven't. I'm pretty sure if I cross the property line via any other means than the driveway, Lloyd will drop me within ten paces. He only bum rushed Wes because Wes looks like a good person.
