So I think I'm getting dumber

Seriously for the past few months, I think I'm getting dumber. I have been searching for words, can't concentrate, don't remember things 5 minutes after my boss tells me them or I read them. I always had a pretty shitty short term and long term memory but I was pretty smart. I went to school for engineering and put in very little effort except for cramming for 2 nights before tests, and got a b average. I still comprehend mechanical things no problem but its like I have extreme ADD, which I've always kind of assumed I did, but now its pretty bad.

Then there was this post by that smart guy, which kind of scared me.

IP banning him is all well and good, but the guy needs to see a doctor and make sure he doesn't have a brain tumor or some really weird blood sugar thing that keeps him from thinking clearly.

I've suspected I may have blood sugar issues for a while now due to the fact that I never really lose or gain weight no matter how good or bad I eat or how much I work out. Also if I don't eat every few hours I get tired as ----, get headaches, and can't think straight. Also I have been pretty unmotivated to do anything, just general laziness and tiredness. I know these are signs of depression but I don't think thats it.

I don't know why I'm asking you people but do you think I should go to the doc. Also does anyone know a site to take a free iq test without them asking for a bunch of personal info.

Got medical? Use it, co pays are minimal and you sound like your young enough they won't try to analy probe you (though you would probably like that wouldn't you). Could be a number of different things.

Good luck with it .... medical issues shouldn't be taken lightly.

smoked a little around 13-24 years old, none since, no drugs at all. Other than booze which I have cut back recently.

same boat i am in, here's some tips
-no coffee
-no energy drinks
-no caffeine or drinks high in sugar
-no candy bars
-don't party hard on weekends, ------- with your sleep schedule takes around 4-5 days to fix which is right in time for the next party\
-take a daily vitamin to help regulate your bodies intake of vitamins and make your days consistent

*now i don't follow any of those but the avoidance of caffeine, but when i have stuck to the proper sleep schedule it has done wonders for my grades and mental health.

go see a doctor and ask to try a anti-depressent for your add.
has done wonders for me, i take around 450mg of welbutrin a day in three doses and it does wonders for my focus, ability to sit and do school work as well as it totally got rid of my social anxiety.

what about high fructose corn syrup? kids who get fed pop tarts at the age of two?

No, it may not be a fully genetic disease in most situations, and most of the people who disagree that a pill is not the answer and actually suffer from said symptoms are the ones who have cut the ---- out of their diet and see those issues disappear.

Treat your body like it was meant to be, proper nutrition, good sleep and it will perform as the engineer(Evolution or said high power) has designed it to function(general maintenance takes you a long way).
Is there ever errors in dna/code? Yes, are their millions of inherent diseases.
Yes, some can be dealt with and some cannot. I have spent the last 14 years of my life dealing with the inability to follow anything to the end. Have kept a phenomenal diet, as i have been in many sports over the years. Had great sleep patterns(until i found out about alcohol and women) and really have come to find out that the tips i listed above help lessen the severity of my inability of to focus. But when drugs that are generally used for the depressed are implemented to help balance the way your brain releases norepinephrine and dopamine someone like myself has gone from a 2.5gpa student in high school to a 3.85gpa student in college. Sometime nature or nurture fucks up ::)

i have those symptoms too... I think I am just depressed about the way my life is at the moment... but don't get me wrong I go out and have fun everyday, it's just inside I'm not content with the way things are... I also have add/adhd... and I'm under a shitload of stress... right now I am on 3 hours of sleep... been up since 9am and it's 12.30am and I'm not even sleepy tired... my mind and body are tired, but I'm not ready to knock out... maybe it's time to go out now... haha

You are depressed, take vacation and you'll be ok ;)

Eating fruits/vegtable help too.

Re: So I think I'm getting dumber

I do eat pretty healthy usually and take vitamins. It looks like I'm gonna go to the doctor, but I don't think I would be willing to go on anti depressants. And I have been thinking about a good vacation, like a week away from everything, no TV, no phone, no internet, no booze like backcountry camping. The recessions doesn't bother me that much, it hasn't affected me directly that much yet.

Half of those things would degrade my cognition. Especially sleeping all the time, any more than 3-3.5 hours and I'm a zombie, takes forever to regain mental clarity.

Avoiding sugars and high glycemic index items is the #1 thing to do.

Stimulants like caffeine actually help focus, sorry, that's why stimulants are what doctors prescribe for ADD and ADHD.

Lastly, students who binge drink on the weekends ALWAYS test higher on everything from curriculum to IQ tests to reaction times. Significantly higher. The idea is that the crappy weak brain cells that slow you down get killed in the binge drinking process. So, cutting daily alcohol consumption out of your diet for blood sugar reasons is good, but "drinking to make up for it" on the weekends is something you should seek out.

cliff clavin from cheers called that the buffalo theory.
when the buffalo are running in a pack, the fastest strongest ones are at the front of the pack safe. leaving the sick, weaker buffalo at the rear of the pack to get picked of by hungry wolves. leaving only the strongest, fastest ones to survive.
thats kinda what beer does to brain cells

Could be depression from all the BS going on right now. ---- can ---- with you in so many ways and not really show.

If you own a gun, go shoot the ---- out of something. Picture of nancy pelosi, harry ried, etc. If not, borrow someone elses for now and do the same, then go get your own. You will feel better when you pull the trigger the first time.
