Listening to other's opinions/beliefs does make you open-minded. Immediately discounting someone's beliefs because they are different than yours does make you close-minded and ignorant. There's more proof against the factuality of religion than there is for it.

no there isn't... how could there be? we should just drop it. and i'm talking in general terms when i say "you" not specifically about waffles.

you know that anti-religious people say they are smart and everyone else is stupid.

you can't prove religion or big bang/evolution, so if you want your faith/religion to be government and science way to go ::) it doesn't make you smart or better than anyone

Again, you are jumping to conclusions. What I really mean to say is that people aren't scrutinizing, and that is to say the least.

You saying you don't care enough only proves my point, you'd rather sit idly than actually reach for understanding. I'm just saying that if you are not making an effort correctly ascertain information that is presented to you, that is the epitome of close-minded.

I have stopped to think "man, what if there really is an omnipotent force that is always watching everything always". The fact of the matter is that they are right, just not about existence. They mean well, because if you read the bible, skipping all the idolatry worship babble, bowing and whatnot, you can discern exactly what it means to be a moral and complete human being. It's meant to teach a values system that is successful, wherein it is successful in doing more than keeping you alive, because human beings are able to do more than simply exist. People will argue that since we are so well designed there must be a designer. Why? Because you think that there needs to be some kind of significance about your own existence.

Magical thinking.

We are finite, the universe seems to function in some "magical way" all around us. Movement of molecules, objects, matter, things through an adaptive "time". We can discern that there are fundamental ways in which things operate around us, starting with what exists and how it exists in our own environment. This is the beauty of human reason, there is an actual reality, completely separate from what ever human "beliefs" have to say about it. It's there and it exists.

Discerning from our limited spectrum of perception what exists in absolute is exactly what science is. When you think of science you think of scientific theory, it cannot be proven, or if it can it can only be tested in circumstance with positive results, it's almost no better than magical thinking, people jumping to conclusions with incomplete information. Scientific thinking allows you to thoroughly assess all aspects of a situation, of a problem, of whatever it is that you don't understand.

Critical thinking is good, magical thinking begets this.

Those people are elitists and are no better than the priest and devout christian.

It simply comes down to, if someone told you that to eat is a sin, and if you ever ate anything you would receive eternal damnation. Well that seems silly doesn't it? You know that you need to eat to live, religion doesn't tell you to starve because it's bad for society to have everyone dying all the time, but it will tell you to not eat certain things (pork, veal, lamb) because these animals carried diseases that could make you sick and die. They don't tell you about the bacteria, just that it's a sin and something bad will happen should you transgress.

It's the same thing in different aspects.

As far as an afterlife goes, we are a continuation of energy, recycled matter being recycled. There isn't any particular significance to our being here on this planet. There very well might be another race somewhere eons away thinking the same thing.

But regardless of what either of them think, they both exist. As does everything beyond our perception.

Discerning this is the tricky part, and is what should be honed. A good set of values, a logical train of thought, based on what you have seen vs. the accounts of others, and whether you can do it again repeatedly.

This is a better alternative to wishing it all here.

It's an opinion yes.

An opinion in which ideas constitute more moral derision than a belief structure, to quote Rufus from Dogma "You can change an idea; beliefs, now that's a bit trickier"

I don't push my opinion on anyone, but as evangelical as it seems wouldn't you want others to be able to ascertain things in the best way that they can?

I feel the need to incorporate humanity into my idea of self, but I know that it isn't my responsibility. I am my brother's keeping, I am no longer the shepherd.

All hardcore alien halfbreeds sit down to pee, haven't you been reading?

Captain extraterrestrial, I could write a huge post proving most of your little factoids wrong but one thing I have learned in life is that you cannot argue with a crazy person, so schedule an appointment to see a Psychiatrist to discuss medication options.

I am all for accepting alternative opinions for a given topic but only those that have intelligent explanations and or evidence, it doesn't have to be the exact scientific method but at least something better than "the gray aliens told me".

Also read up on how stealth technology works, if it was ONLY the paint that makes stealth planes harder to detect then why don't they just paint all planes with that specific paint?

Well that paint is expensive, and uses rare materials. It is mostly the paint though, the fractal angles of the plane would still reflect waves if it was shinier.

Also define intelligent, if you want to make a point in the argument you have to be more specific. As far as I'm concerned the scientific method isn't intelligent, just commonly accepted.

Many things are commonly accepted, doesn't make them good. Look at JD.

Besides your ad hominem attack on his point of view was petty at best.

Exactly.

Which one is it, can you retards come up with which story you want to follow?

Is it ONLY the paint, or is it the paint AND the design of the aircraft?

I know which it is, I don't need you to sit there and talk down to me like I've never watched the discovery channel.

However I don't believe we've bought anything from aliens, and thus far you've provided no actual proof that we have. I'll say it again, you fruitcakes need to stop watching so much X-Files and Unsolved Mysteries.

Also, I actually am a very open minded person and I really have no opinion on evolutionism or creationism either one could be correct. However there is a difference in being open minded and believing in ridiculous theories crafted after watching an Unsolved Mysteries marathon on Lifetime. My previous comments about being god fearing were simply there to get a rise out of you heathens - and it worked.

Well the answer is both, as well as the tellurium skin that they put on the bottom of it.

Having no opinion doesn't make you open minded, it just makes you indecisive.

I do not advocate pseudo-science, I do not advocate magical thinking.

That's exactly what paranormal investigation and crypto-zoology are, pseudo-science.

I said deduce what's testable, and assume nothing. I mean more than that, but that's to put it bluntly.

If you wanted a rise you got it, now what are you going to do in rebuttal, since you apparently wanted into this conversation.

Or are you going to shut your ------- mouth like a good little bitch? Or go further and spout off more biased opinions that have no contextual proof or any other form of relevance, only further marking you as a little bitch.
