Only thing I've got without a credit car is my civic which I paid cash for. I'm kind of wishing I'd used the card for it to (platinum - no prob ) just so it would have shown up and then paid it off that month. I always pay my cards off every month. the only exception is that I've got a few thousand of debt left from remodeling expenses - but it is interest free. I never pay interest, and with Discover I get 1% cash back - well over a hundred dollars a year. So they are paying me to borrow their money for a month at a time. What is not to love? I had excellent credit. Then I added myself to someone else's accounts while I was helping them straighten out their finances - making payments for them and stuff to help out. Little did I know that just being an authorized user on someone else's card means everything (past and present) pertaining to the account affects you . It destroyed my credit (and my credit was as good as credit can get - no late payments ever, no negatives at all, and I use credit for just about EVERYTHING) because they had delinquent accounts before I started, and they had like $25k in revolving debt. I almost couldn't get the house I was trying to finance because the bank thought I was $25k in the hole. After that I learned my lesson. I was turned down for like the last three cards I applied for (just to take advantage of free stuff, not like I need more cards). Fortunately, my wife has excellent credit, since she is an authorized user on all of my accounts, which are still pristine. It's kinda weird! She can get cards, and I can't, and I'm the one who makes most of the money (and pays the bills)! Anyway, lesson learned, be careful about who you help out with credit. That isn't the way!
