So How Much Is A Flawless 1965 Mustang Worth? Specificaly This One! Lots of Pics

So my sister and her hubby live next to this cool ass rich old engineer dude who's 80 and he has this cool Mustang he can't drive anymore and wants me to sell it for him and he's gonna kick me some commission if I get his asking price. He thinks this thing is the ----! "Best in the state." That's exactly what he said. Now I don't know about all that, but it's meticulously re-worked and underwent a complete frame off. The paint alone cost $8k.

The records are perfect all the way back to the Baptist priest he bought it off of in '84 as a heep of ----. The restoration/build are completely photo and reciept documented.

He was a member of a prominent car club around here and he seriously has over 50 1st and 2nd trophies out of about 300 shows he took it to. Here's a brief rundown of what's done to it and then I'll link the pics and then some of you guys who know what they're talking about need to let me know a price. He'll sit on it until he dies, but it's done right and it's the last of 8 classic cars he did full restos on.

*Swapped in a rebuilt H.O. 302 that's done .060 over. Balanced, blue-printed, powdercoated, etc. The motor has less than 800 miles since build. All this stuff does. He drives it less than 30 miles a year :o. The head is built fully, it has a hot cam, roller rockers, oversized valves, ported, etc; all the V8 upgrade stuff. Some dress up ---- too.

*New 4 speed w/ overdrive auto tranny

*Upgraded AC system to 134a (------- $)

*4 core radiator with electric fan

*"turbo exhaust"

* Mallary ignition with upgraded coil packs/distrubutor

*Holley 600cfm

*Stock interior OH YEAH, THE CAR HAS 46,600 ORIGINAL ON IT!

*trunk is matched to 65 factory spec

*3.25 geared new rear-end.

*new factory struts with better springs

*slotted front discs with POWER ASSIST

*power stearing added

*super rare factory "Ralley" wheels

*luggage rack

*rare ralley fogs

*lots of classy gauges, underhood fuel pressure, tach, temp, etc

*aftermarket strut/swap bars

Whew, lots more stuff too. The car looks totally factory, but pop the hood and you find out different. The thing has plenty of power too. It's basically how Ford should have made the car in 1965. I'd estimate about 250-300whp with at least that much torque. Not overly impressive, but enough to beat the newer stangs and not break ---- while you're at it. IMO it's not the "best in the state", but it is damn close.

Maybe some of you guys have dads that are into classic Mustangs and can offer me/you some advice on what it's worth. Or maybe they'll buy it rofl. Anyway, here are pics and LMK!

Bah! No interior pics, but whatever. Just take my word for it, it's clean as the day it rolled out of the factory. I know it's an old fully restored Mustang, and there isn't a shortage of them, but it is a 65 and it is desireable, so it's got to be worth something. I'm not claiming anything as I'm not too sure what it's worth, but he said $15-$17k was what he wanted for it. If you made it this far in my thread and give me your input I love you :-*

Throw it on eBay with a reserve of $15,000; the sky's the limit

---- man, that's coming next. I just want to make sure I'm not being a dumbass about things so I want to research a little and see what range it's in at least. I'll prolly try Craiglist and Auto Trader locally first, and then if it's not sold in a month or 2 it'll go on ebay. I just think the type of person that going to buy this car will want to see it in person, get a drive, talk with the owner, etc, etc. I was thinking about buying it off him because I know he'd let me do payments and probably let me do work for $ off, or he'd possibly croak before I paid him off, but he's just asking more than I want to spend. I'd have to open a line of credit, and ---- all that on a Mustang. Now if it was worth $25k I'd buy it next week lol.

as always, it would have been worth a lot more with original number motor tranny and anything else original. Its always a better idea to "Restore" (key word there) than to replace. But i wouldn't expect less than 18k out of it. It is a really nice car. He won't get that kinda money from me, hell or anybody else on this site, but someone out there is dumb enough to spend all that money on it.

$15,000 actually sounds pretty cheap to me for the work that has been done to it.

Just buy it or $15k, take it to cruises, and slap a "FOR SALE 26,000 OBO" on sign on it. If it doesn't sell, you have a nice classic car to take to cruises still ;)

2g6 it not really a collector must a very nice cruiser, i would say it could be sold for 20k+ with the motor swapped and the aftermarket items it really lost a lot of value, are there any build papers from the factory that you know of, if so that addes value to it, watch the barett jackson action on speed some time you will see what goes for what, nice care for sure

I was about to say the exact same thing. How can he "restore" it if he's putting aftermarket ---- on it. That's a big nail in the coffin for people who want a restored car. All that stuff done and he didn't even restore the original matching block. ---- that. I'd give him pat on the back and kick in the ass on his quality so called restoration. Restoration is one thing...modifying is another. Usually it's one or the other.

I'd say the best place to sell a car like that would be classic car shows
