Re: So how dangerous is your job?

----, half the day I'm dealing with oil lines. Have you ever seen how sharp the ends get when they fray? The other half of the day I paint people's houses. Fucken purdy keeps making their brushes sharper and sharper. I'd say on a scale of 1 to 10, I'm fucked at 0.39 on the danger scale. ;D

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

That list is kinda lame.I do construction mainly industrial at chemical plants and pulp mills where you could get killed in a second if you are not on the ball. That being said the safety regulations are so strict these days the chances of being killed are relativly low.I think being a convience store clerk in the gettho is probably much more dangerous.

I'm a residential electrician. Got to be on your toes sometimes, especially when things are live. Nothing like doing a fastrack service...you replace the outside meter pan and service connection while the power line is still attached and live. I have special gloves that i use for this specificly...thick rubber linings and thick leather glove over top that come up to your elbows. Only thing is if either one of those 2 glove pieces has a pinhole in it, kiss my ass good bye.

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

slo_crx1, locally you install the new service parallel to the existing one and then the power company comes out and switched the main line @ the pole for you.

Sucks to be you!

accordepicenter 01-07-2006 02:36 AM

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

slo_crx... yeah... 240v. Ever glove 13,200v? Are you a union guy?

Not always...this would be a recommended way to do it, but some of the older houses actually have the service masts falling off. Having the power co. come and do it is the way i prefer, but sometimes you have no choice.

Nope, not union either. Was union in NJ for a little while, but now i do mostly new residential wiring and service calls. PA has some interesting laws regarding electricians...mainly you don't have to be licensed, although it is a plus for business ;) It's not the voltage that kills you...it's the current.

Tom-Guy 01-07-2006 02:57 AM

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

Voltage just helps the current to jump air gap and kill the ---- out of you. :l

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

---- everyday I work on heavy ass vehicles made of big chunks of armored steel, and every ass engines, big ass wrenches, in the freezing cold, sometimes with no light. and every six months I am in a dander zone getting shot at or mortors comming at my work place. watching friends and co workers dying. now much danger is that? plus when I am not in a danger zone for a year to 6 months I am in training training an inexperienced person shooting next to you or having someone shooting blanks at you, how easy it is to mix up the ammo?

Dx 101 01-07-2006 08:25 AM

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

i have the chance of a battery blowing up on me ::) i also have the chance of getting lead poisoning from soldering. i burn my fingers all the time from shorting out batteries. hearing and feeling your skin fry and then getting a whiff sucks. but i prob have more of a chance breaking my foot than dying.

I work in a bodyshop so I guess theres some danger. More helath concerns than anything... There's been fires and someone almost blew the paint room up while I was mixing paint one day. The stupid ass walked right in without reading the signs first and lit one up! :6

i'm a cook at applebees so sure there is the everyday cuts and burns........ but the thing that worries me the most is the mexican dish washers that could go bizzirk and kill everyone, becouse the wife that he left in mexico and has been sending all his money to for the past year just left him for a bull fighter...... :8

But goddamn can they wash them dishes, kinda makes me look like ---- when there out at 10.30 dishin and then im walkin out at like 11.30 from cook job........but then again i hate my job so its all good......o yea.....dont eat at larosas. but i would say the biggest safety concern at my job is me because one day i just might snap and go from booth to booth with a semi automatic ar 15 assault rifle pumping round after round into the shitty ------- people we call customers. So where does that put me on the list>?

I always hated fellow employees at resturants. Working with a flock of girls sure does bring about a whole lot of back talking bullshit that i did not care to hear all day.

I can't stand teamsters...well 90% of the ones I have to work with. They'll cuss you out to your face but if you say anything to them they'll go back to the union and complain your being disrespectful. When there not whining about things, there bitching that they have to work and they gossip more than 12yr old girls.

i sometimes work at an autowrecking yard..
we use forklifts instead of car lifts or jacks to pick cars up and work under them too.. the sign on the forklift tells us not to do it, but ehh... i also walk through aisles with cars stacked on top of each other.. they wont fall unless u really tug on em.. so far havnt been seriously hurt.. just cuts and bruises. from sharp edges...

I thought that fishing in the Bearing Sea was the most dangerous job on earth? Or at least thats what I've heard several times.

And yeah, those categories suck, I cut, burn, and smash the ---- out of my hands everyday at work, and I'm just a mechanic.

I'm currently a warehouse grunt for Amazon.com. The management is nuts about preaching saftey. We're not even allowed to lift boxes higher than shoulder level while loading trucks. It's kind of funny, the place pretty much runs it self so I guess it gives management something to bitch about.

I went to school for massage therapy. I really need to make a move into that field, only problem is people don't like being touched with greasy fingernails. I guess I may have to give up my wrenching addiction, if I'm after the potential danger of having to rub down whales and homos.

I repair commercial kitchen equipment and do refrigeration. I deal with 480 volt 3 phase power, Steam, water, gas, and tons of fire breathing items. I am very safe and careful. I don't ever get hurt besides the time I drilled a hole through my thumb!

Re: So how dangerous is your job?

My dad is #2 on the list, not like I didn't already know that.

I am a mix between #3 and #9. Warehouse and Manufacturing, tho the type of manufacturing we do is a little more crazy than building electronics and ----. But the stuff we do is more injury prone than death prone.
