Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

Some of you sounded interested in the Homemade ITB setup, so I figure I'd post a few sneak peak pictures of something I'm working on right now. I'm going to have a full write up "HOW-TO" when I'm done..

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/itb/itb1.jpg

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/itb/itb2.jpg

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/itb/itb3.jpg

Basically, its a factory B16a manifold that was chopped off, with 1 1/2 in runners welded on (1 7/8 dia) I then had it surfaced, attached the GSXR 1000 42mm Throttle bodies on using Silicone rubber adapters. Everything is looking pretty good so far, I ordered some velocity stacks eariler this week, and still need to work out my TPS situation. But other than that they are pretty much done. I should have less than 200 dollars in the entire setup. I'm very eager to see what these things sound like, lol...

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech/itb/work.jpg

and yes... I'm still building a 500whp B-series :)

I wont be geTTing 500whp with the way your thinking... Thats just another "fun project" that will come after the ITB's

What management do you plan to run with the itb's. I keep hearing about tuning problems on factory ecu's due to map sensor issues.

I'm using the Zdyne SECU, hopefully it will work ;) I'm looking forward to the challenge ;D

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

that is going to sound raw! your torque curve will be all or nothing just like your throttle body will be all open or nothing.

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

mad props for the ITB setup, you should make a mild cowl hood and a scoop down to them for mad air intake. That'd be sick. I can see issues with the MAP reading, and what about idle control? Just leave them cracked a bit and let her rev? Seems like it would be tough to get that working alright...

turbohf 12-19-2003 02:22 AM

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

for idle i would just tighten the throttle cable, then it will be open like 2-5% at a min at all times...think that might work?

neuspeedescort, that Escort roll in Everett??

leed 12-19-2003 02:22 AM

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

Well, as far as Map and idle are concerned, a small vacuum log connected to all 4 runners should smooth things out. The IACV could then be connected so that it bleeds into the vacuum log. Atleast this is what Jay and I plan to to when we hook his ---- up. Im sure we will run into small problems, but nothing a PGMFI.org rom editor wont fix ;)

Whats the ETA on your ---- Jeff?

HMT-Admin 12-19-2003 02:25 AM

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

The ITB's have a Throttle stop that is adjustable, so I will just have the butterflies slightly cracked open to keep it running. Its going to be a pain in the ass to get running right, but I'm determined :)

btw, there might be a little direct port nos with this setup ;D

but on the same christmas present note i sure could use a zc or a zc that needs to be rebuilt ;)

the log should work, and if your using ish from pgmfi, you can just disable i IACV and use it as a paper weight.

PGMFI software doesn't have anything to do with disabling IACV. In an OBD0 car, a Radio Shack 10w-10ohm resistor (Part Number 271-0132 ..to be exact..) spliced between the terminals.

-------------------
As far as the ITB setup... I *hope* Jeff will consider tackling this etup with TE. I believe if we work together, we can get this setup quite nicley.

As TurboEDIT can do *ANYTHING* Zdyne can do.. and more! ;D

I've already told you this, send me a ECU, software and everything I need to do it, and I'll spend some time on the dyno getting everything running nice and good. ;D

Kick ass.. Let me know when you're ready.. I'll have to hunt down an extra PM6.. but I'm sure I can find something.

..I don't have a programmer I can spare though. :(

We might have to wait until we can RTP.. but that should only be a two months or so..

Looks as if they're all controlled by one lever.

Note his finger holding the bufferflies open.. one finger. :-/

How much is a programmer? I suppose I could buy one, I plan on getting this thing in within the next week or so.

The throttle linkage is all together, I think I should be able to fab the stock one to work somehow ;)

or be happy that they are not carbs in the first place. although it'd be funny to see a carb setup on a B series. was a B20A carburated? no right?)

Nice. That looks really good. Here's a $3000 Jun intake manifold, its got a chopped flange just like what your doing but no individual throttle bodies

https://i5.ebayimg.com/02/i/01/11/3a/31_1_s.JPG

Doesn't it make you feel good that you can build something yourself thats better than a $3000 manifold

Re:Sneak peak of my HM-ITB's

New style Toyota 4age 20v engines use ITB and they have the vacuum log thing from the factory. Sounds like it should be a winner. Nice work, too. One thing you probably already know is that a progressive linkage would really smooth out the response from that setup. Like a weird decreasing radius roller for the cable to pull on. I dunno, just a thought. Cracking open a 42mm throttle plate even a little moves a great deal of air.
