MORE PICS BELOW

Well I have a few people asking about my DOHC ZC Build so I fiqured I'd Make a report on it.
The Collection Has Started:
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/1.jpg
SRP 75.5Bore, 4.3CC Dome Pistons will give me about 9.15:1CR
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/2.jpg
My Turbo: .60.63 Freshly rebuilt by Garret, I just need to source the Turbine Housing, but I already had it. Got this for 155.00. Audi Wastegate I modded to be adjustable.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/3.jpg
Eagle Rods. No bad for 250 Shipped. Was going to go with TTs, but couldn't pass these up.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/4.jpg
The Dirty old block that already had ARP Studs.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/5.jpg
The Head. The CAMS are out to get reground at Delta with www.thezcr.com Group Buy. It's also going to use JG Cam Gears when julio_boostmante gets my MO.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/6.jpg
TullosTech Electronic Boost Controller.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/10.jpg
I also have small parts like Adj. FPR and such.

Now before these next pics, I know everyone will see this as pointless and ricey, but I don't give a ----!!! I've always wanted one, got the chance and now I doing it!

Let the Stripping Begin
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/7.jpg
The whole car, braced, and stripped, goignt to a Dark Grey Metalic colour in the end. Kinda a mess now. We have people storing crap in our shop, and I've been busy building traction bars.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/8.jpg
Here the clincher that I know most people will flame about, agian save it, I don't need your opinions on this one!
RHD Firewall I got from my cli. I have everything I need to do this.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450006864/9.jpg
So ya my car is going to be a RHD. Trust me, in my area, I'll be the only one. I have the knowledge and have friend/family members teh are autobody mechanics, so in no way am I doing this blind.

yea you def got your work cut out for you. are you really gonna go RHD? That would be real cool too. What are your hp goals?

yeah man keep us updated O0

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

Deff. will keep it updated.

Goals are about 320+whp at 18psi. Some people say at if I need 18psi that I need a bigger turbo. Well if I make 320 @ 18psi I'm happy, if more Bonus!!! If less, Got to do something different. Gonna want to be about to max the tullostech boost controller out at 22.5psi when I want to too!

The car is also getting a Full Cage, if I ever find a tibe bender.

The RHD Conversion will be some work, but so far with dismantelling it has been nearly as hard as I thought. Just Very time consuming!!! Lots of welds to drill out. Hopefully I'll be ready to drop the new firewall in this week. Working 40+hours and doing Traction Bars at night cuts into the "Me Time". Especailly when you working on the Fiances car on weekends!

Yup thats the one!

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

Youll need to upgrade to a T3/T4 to get 320whp, it wont support more than maybe 285whp at the very most, but thats no big deal since you could run a t4 compressor section on the turbo you have now and not change very much else.

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

Saaweeet! Now your setup will rip for sure. 8) I've sold a couple of those on here but those things are a nightmare to get off. Well looks like you got your ---- going in the right direction and planned out pretty good. Gonna do a cage or anything since you have the interior ripped out too?

Looks like a pretty good project with realistic goals.Dont you have to change alot to go to RHD, like steering rack, columm etc?Keep the updates coming and your traction bars look good i recieved my set the other day and im quite happy.

Looks like alot of work. Looking at your bracing, I know the reason why you put it there, but my mind is finding it hard to justify. Is it a secret, or is it more of a "just in case"?

Good luck with the car.

i believe that bracing is there for when he cuts out the firewall.
unless he like looking through metal

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

Ya the bracing is there because it is surpisingly flimsy one it is all apart. The clip just flopped around. I got braceing on the fenders to support that area from sagging and then across the A-Pillars and Front Strut towers to keep the frame horns from ------ing.

Again I know there is plenty in TO area, but that almost 3 hours away. I don't know of any hatches by me. The Closest RHD is a Teg Type-R in Kitchener, or the guy I know there who has a Skyline. I live in a little hick town of about 4500 people, NO ONE has ever seen a RHD around here!!!

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

i have to agree that the turbo is too small to make 350hp, maybe 300 if your lucky, anymore than that is pushing it, i ran that turbo on my stock z6 and it spooled at about 4k, with a built engine is going to spool probably about 3500 and fall off a bit top end, you'll want something that spools about 4500-5k if youre going for 350hp

Good luck on your RHD project... got to tell ya that ---- is hella time cosuming and not exactly as easy as some might think... I just got mine done, will post pics in a couple of days.

have fun, it's not hard to assemble a motor, I'm the middle of assembling mine right now!

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

hmm, I've never heard of the bracing thing. Looking at it is seems the A pillars would flex easily with the bracing, and the firewall doesn't interupt the floorpan near the bottom, or the roof tied to the A pillars tied to the fender frames.

I've read alot of write ups about those RHD swaps and I never heard of anyone bracing it. Just wondering if you know it's needed, or you are doing it for the just in case kinda thing.

BLUEHATCH 11-27-2005 11:36 PM

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

I havent heard of brasing ---- either... i didn't brace mine and there wasn't any flexing or anythig like that and everything came togeter just fine, nother got fucked up...

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

How are these pistons going to work with boost? I assume they are just the standard 149198 A6 pistons correct? If so, let me know how they hold up to the boost. JE recomends not using them for boost but since options for the ZC are limited, these might work out. Keep us posted.

The ZC dohc head has a larger cc then all d-series engine hence the the dome on their pistons compared to any other sohc head. I'm assuming he went with those pistons so the compression wouldn't be too low.

I am aware of the ZC head design. I want to know how they hold up to boost. They are not "technically" designed for boost. I am sure they put this disclaimer on the box since 11:1 compression is not particularly boost friendly. I have a few sets on the shelf that I have pondered thowing in one of my boosted ZC's but just haven't had time to test it out.

Re: Got My Work Cut Out For Me. My Build w/pics.

I've never seen that stated. They are still a fored piston with the same manufacturing process of any of thee other one, just a dome instead of a dish

On a 88-91 The firewall does extend into the floor fan. It wraps under the car and about 6-8" toward the back. I can hardly stand in the car in that area right now without pushing the floor down.

I fiqured what is the bracing going to hurt. Even if it's not need it's a peice of mind of things not moving around.

I think it is just for the people who would try to put them in an A6 and boost on them. I am pretty sure they will work just fine. They are forged so there should be any issue there. I am ready to see your results and how they work.

where did you get the components for the rhd conversion.. or are you use master cylinder from a us version?

looks like you do have a lot of work to do.. looks like a good start though
