SBC 350 torque specs needed....Help a nog out
 

Hoping some of you domestic lovers can chime in here.

Totally stock 350; need to know head bolt TQ and rocker lash or clearance.

Every google search shows me performance builds w/ aftermarket studs and ----. I need some stock #'s.

If hydraulic..its easy... with the motor runnin (hahaha) snug em up untill just untill they are quiet......then loosen them just untill they start to "tick", then tighten 3/4 of a turn. Thats it. Its nice to have an old valve cover with the center cut out to aid in avoiding oil getting all over if you dont have the oil clips for the rocker arms.

Used to do this all the time (since i was a kid). Its a good method. As for the specs... ill lo0ok em up.

I believe what you are asking is "how do you torque the rocker arms" on a SB chevy. As long as it is mostly stock, and not using solid lifters, the following is the proper method for setting the torque.

Start the engine and let it warm for at least 15 minutes, then shut down the engine.

Remove the valve cover on one side (does not matter which) and restart the engine.

One valve at a time, loosen the nut holding the rocker arm down untill it starts to "tick", then retighten the rocker arm slowly untill the ticking stops. At this point then turn your wrench slowly 1/2 to 3/4 turn more, and your done. Move to the next rocker arm and repeat the prosses untill all 4 cylinders (8 rocker arms) have been properly torqued.

Assuming its hydraulic lifters and adjust able rocker arms get the cam on base circle, spin the pushrod while tightening the rocker nut till the push rod stop spinning then give it one half turn more, on the nut that is. but we need more info on the specific parts

The best flat rate style I have found on rockers is put it on tdc adjust all rockers untill the push rod has no play (spin it with your fingers till you fell it get drag) turn engine 180 adjust all loose ones, tdc again all loose ones, 180 guess what all loose ones. Tighten them all 1/2 - 3/4 turns. Works tits and is faster then going by a manual.....#7 intake # 4 exhaust ect.

He already said... stock. hydraulic: Stock chevy rockers dont have any adjustment other than the arm itself (rocker stud) . Just snug em up...back off till they tick, and tighten 3/4. trust me. It works great... I used to have the oil clips for the rockers, but even just a half a valve cover put on the outside of the head will keep you out of smokey header burnt oil lamd o stank.....
