i too didnt want to ditch my cd player! :P so i cut up the dash instead!! heres a few pics of how i mounted my VAFC and boost gauge.

Straight isnt a big cocern .. to me. when i open track i like my guages to be so that unless its standing straight up or beyond that I know I'm in the green. i realize thats not how everyone likes their stuff. If you got out the dremel and made the holddown bracket things just a TAD smaller on the bottom they'd all sit straight no problem.
They do make lil angel plates that cost about a dollar a piece if you want to angle the guages somewhere on jegs.com.

I'll have to see if I can find a plastic store round here.
maybe go the extra mile and wrap the bitch in color matched vinyl to the rest of your interior...
