recharging ac ???
 
its a 91 civic


on the bottle of super cooler i got it says to hook it up to the low presure line ?? which one is it. on the fire wall there is a top one bigger and a botom one thats littler. this is my first car with ac. :8

It's the smaller one of the lines, it has a cap with an L on it for low pressure. If it's a 91 and the ac is fucked, charging it isn't going to do much. you most likely have a fucked up component of the ac system.

If its a 91 i think it has R12 instead of R134a but i dont know for sure. If so, your pretty much screwed.

You probably have to convert it first which means drain all the ---- that's in it out and put new 134a in and since you're doing it yourself, it's not going to be that great since you can't pull vac on the system before you charge it. :-\

Vaccum whatever is in there and fill it up with R134a.
I charge it on the low side.

I think everybody charges it on the low side. You're gonna have to get rid of that oil in the compressor. Disconnect some ---- and blow it out with some air or something at least.

I *just* (as in 5 minutes ago) got done working on my miata AC. Bit the bullet and bought a harbor freight manifold gauge set (the quality surprised me) and a HF special compressor-powered vacuum pump. Air seems to work well but it's only like 70-80 outside and its near 100 during the day so I'll have to wait till tomorow for the true test.

Anyways enough about me. Yeah get the old oil out, get some new oil and R134a and a r12-134a adapter for your low pressure side. Put some oil in there, then turn your AC on and start dumping refrigerant in there. If im not mistaken, you want to shoot for ~35psi. More pressure doesnt necessarily mean colder and you definetly dont want to piss off the compressor by feeding it too much pressha.

If you want to go all out, get it vacuumed before you refill. A step up from that would be replacing the receicer/dryer aka accumulator. When I replaced it in my wagon, the AC got at least 15 degrees cooler.

AC is one of those things where if you half ass it, it can bite you in the ass then you gotta go through all that ---- over again to make it good. Sucks but its the truth. :(

Where did you get the vac pump? Does it connect to the gauge set? I almost bought a nice set, but decided to cheap out and just get the gay ass can with the cheesey guage on it. :1 A/C is so important out here that it would be worth it to have the right tools.
