Re: Rap of the 90's (JR High): A tribute to the 808
Oooh Me Rikey This thread!
Ok I got some good stuff here. FunkDoobiest- Who's Tha Doobiest -- Gotta be 808 (I dont know for sure but from the description in the thread and the other tracks on the list Im thinking it must) Public Enemy- 911 is a Joke or something.. Gotta have some P.E. Tribe Called Quest- Scenario is TOO old, thats late '80's The Tribe Hawtness in tha '90's was from the album called "Midnight Marauders" and the Hit was "Award Tour" this is a requirement for the 808 album imho Sir Mix Alot was definetly missing, but Swass is too early. That album was from '88. The '90's stuff was definetly from Mack Daddy I prefer "LockJaw" Cypress Hill- Insane in the Brain, Real Estate Too Short- Pimpology ICE-T- 6 In tha Morning. Outkast- ATLiens h0lla! |

Re: Rap of the 90's (JR High): A tribute to the 808
Donfry,
Are you trying to tell me that fity cent is a better Lyricist/Rapper than the Old Skool playas? Better Lyricist than Leaders of the New School, EPMD, Eric B. and Rakim, P.E., Biggie, Jay-Z, Too Short, or Oukast, or Tribe Called Quest? Niggah Please! With precious few exceptions, (Those being the Late '90's POST Chronic Rappers (Snoop, Dre, Jay-Z, Biggie, Pac, Eminem)) all new rap is ALL about beats. I would agree in principal that Production quality has gotten MUCH better, however Lyricism, and True MC skills are on the decline. |
