radar/laser detectors

Rode in a few cars that have had them and they work alright, but what is everyone else's experiences with them?

Re: radar/laser detectors

piece of shits. mine went off at the same spot in my neighborhood every time i passed with no cops around. it catches a certain frequency that some places just carry even when no cops are around. n i drove passed a construction site n it went off.... no purpose imo

Re: radar/laser detectors

the better they are, the better they can filter out false alarms like that. a lot of stores use an x-band for their motion sensor doors, which will set off radar detectors. mine worked alright, but i knew it'd get me into trouble sooner or later, so i ended up selling it. they can work really well, but sometimes tend to give a false sense of security.

i was looking into getting one and the only one i can see worth spending money on is the valentine one. i have a few dvd's and the guys in them use it and it looks like it works great. the only problem is they are pretty expensive, like $300-400 :(

A neighbor bought one of those expensive "radar jammers". The one that offers to pay your ticket if it doesnt jam the cops radar. We tested it in front of my house... didnt jam ----.

I never drive without one. They've saved my ass hundreds of time. Right now I'm using a Bel 910 (about $90) and it's kick-ass for the money.

really? Friend has one of those cobra's in his prelude and the only time it went off that i have seen is when a cop was directly in front of his car at the kent jack in the box.

I have a cobra, older model, the laser dector doesnt work for ----, but the radar saved my ass 100's of times. they way I look at it, if it saves you 1 time, its payed off. and the emergencey warning dector works great too, ie. emergency vehicles and accidents

The Valentine one is seriousy the only one worth it. Find any objective comparison test and they are so far ahead its not even funny. A friend of mine just picked one up and its incredible to see how accurate it is.

but it can detect on emergency which is fire/ambulance which all run on the same frequency type ----. jus thought maybe it would detect some po po's too lol.

um, just buy a scanner and listen to the truckers on th highway, they tell each other when to slow down because of a cop. Radar detectors are ---- in the cities.

Most ambulances and police cars are equiped with a transmitter that sends a signal to the signal lights to make them turn green in the direction that they are headed so they can get where they need to go faster, so when they have these transmitters on radar/laser detectors may go off which is useful to give u time to get out of there way.

I think that may be an urban legend. :)
Im sure SOME emergency vehicles may have a "light changer" (for lack of better term) in them but i dont think they are prevalent. I havent seen one yet and i dont know any Po-Po vehicles here in Florida with them.

You mean these?
http://www.skyoptics.com/Mirt.htm

I've debated on buying one for a long time, but it wouldn't be worth it here. When I lived in Tucson, all of the stoplights can be activated by one of these, but where I'm at its hit and miss.

I have actually designed a homemade one, all it is is a strobe operating at 14 hz. I did not have any sort infrared filter for it though, and once again, it really wouldn't be super useful where i drive.

I have an older cobra model and I have the same experience with it. The radar works excelent but the lazer sucks. Dosent matter here though 95% of the po use radar and not lazer. I got it for christmas, it cost maybe $100 but has saved my ass more times than I can even count. I was racing a corrado last week and we were coming up over a hill and it went off, I rammed on my brakes and he flew up over the hill. When I crested the hill he was pulled over getting a ticket. So just that one time it payed for its self.........I hear wreckless/racing tickets arnt cheep

They are real just some cities/states approve or dont approve of them for various different reasons just depends where you are.

I always just flash my brights really fast on and off at lights and they change immidiately, its illegal as ---- though. Oh and the bad thing about even the top o the line radar detectors is that the cops need to gun someone in front of you for them to work. So if your allllll by yourself on some desolate road and the cop isnt shooting anyone else, you want have any warning till he nails you.

Re: radar/laser detectors

i have a rocky mountain radar dectector and the deflector. they both work really good, i can tell that the phaze II (deflector) works cuz the cops always have a stupid look on their faces and start checking their eqeiptment when i go by them. the bad part is last spring i got cocky and was hauling ass from pullman to spokane and their was a cop on the side of the road waving me over, i thought no way he could have gotten me. he listed off a bunch of spots that i was speeding and said that an aircraft had been following from colfax. he could only get me for one of them and just went with the slowest of the numbers. i never filled out the regristration form for the phaze II so they wouldnt pay the ticket.
