Ok , who's got em? I am seriously thinking about one because these damn tickets are killing me . What brand , how effective, how senstive and are they worth the dough?

Just as a note, I was with a friend in his '97 Civic Coupe doing about 75ish MPH through Lynnwood past 164th. He has a V1 and that thing went nuts. Sure enough there was a cop on one of those onramps with a laser. Clocked us at 78 and he got a nice fat ticket. The jerk was smug about it too, "Your detector go off?" he said. Like it's a game to him. Yea, it did. The thing was screaming in my ear!! You CANNOT use a detector against those. Wanna know why? Forgot to mention, I have one. $80 special from Target. The range sucks and I know I cannot possibly rely on it for hardcore speeding. I just like it for town and knowing when a cop's waiting at the traffic light. Some of them drive around with 'em on. Although some guys are good at throwing the switch at the last second AKA Instant On. If you're gonna get one make a good one. At least 300+ for real quality. More like 400.

just depends what you're looking for. Want something invisible to radar detector detectors get the Bel STi Driver. Want something with great functionality and options, wait for the 9500i. I dunno, just do a bit of reading.

I wanna hear some stories. What have you guys encountered?

i had one, it sucked, anytime i was near a store that had electronic sliding doors it would go off, never helped me once. just annoyed the ---- out of me

ok, my story:

i was ding 85+ going northbound on I-5 near the Skagit valley casino. the road crests a little after the casino. just as i was cresting, it went off. (i knew it was a hot spot for speed traps, but i guess i forgot) anyways, i hit the brakes. he did get me, but only for doing 77. it helped a little, but i still got a $150 ticket

it has saved my ass on more than one occasion, though

In the end you'll get what you pay for though.

Escort passport 8500, V1 or Bel STI, anything else is worthless. Even they can be worthless if you get hit with laser radar, so you still need to be very careful, but with my escort 8500 X50 ive picked up KA radar from as much as a mile and a half away, and its saved my ass numerous times, but alas, nothing is foolproof/ticketproof. If youre gonna speed, dont do it when you are the only car around, in traffic is the only way that you have a fighting chance, even with a detector

not that i advise running, but we've all done it. Just have a car quick enough to outrun them. If youre on the streets ride with the left foot SLIGHTLY on the breaks to throw them off about where youre going to turn at. and hit the cuttys. ya know

toggle switch for the brakelight works wonders, if you act oblivious to cops like you didnt see them hiding even though youre going 5mph over, thats better than jamming on the brakes like a douche. You can do both with a brakelight kill switch

had a escort and i pissed me off because it would go off and i would look for the cop for almost a mile before i saw him. Had a cobra they suck.
the best way to not get a ticket is to not speed ;)
and radar detectors give you a false sense of security.

i drive from buffalo to nyc and back weekly, and route 17 between binghamton to route 6/palisades pkwy area is usually crawling with troopers especially near liberty (exit 100). I was hauling ass about 85-90 in a 55 today and i got a slight ka warning and i slowed right down and sure enough about 2/3mi up the road around the bend hiding behind a snowbank was a trooper spraying ka radar like crazy. Thank you Escort Passport 8500 X50. Alot of troopers use instant on with dual antennas or laser radar out there so i have to be really careful, especially at night, they hide very good

I talked to one of the cops that beat Orlando down when he pulled me and Goforth over the day Goforth bought that car. Immediately after seeing the title paperwork and asking if the car still smelled like dope, he asked wtf was done to make the car so fast.

"I've never seen anything move so fast. You do know he got away from us twice, broke line of sight and everything, the only reason we caught him is because he didn't know how to drive?"

The bottom line here is that Orlando is a mexiCAN'T claiming to be a Puerto Rican. He was told not to ---- around with the boys he picked that 30 lbs of weed up from, he knew he'd been tailled a couple times that week already, so when they get behind him and try to pull him over in a ------- Durango he almost wads the car into a Camry before getting away. Orlando calls about everyone under the sun to tell them what just happened. Multiple people told him to throw the 30 lbs into a ditch and get the car off the road, they would pick him up, but NOOOOOOOO the stupid mexiCAN'T drives across town and sells part of the 30 to somebody and then takes off down the road to sell the rest. This time there are a bunch of APD, county, Troopers, and MEG out after his ass and he still would have gotten away from them as well if he weren't so ------- incompetent.

I've flayed the SS Trooper cars alive in the exact same car with 2/3rds the power Orlando's had while he owned it. Ask Caveman, he was only passenger three of the five times I ran from the cops and he will testify that all it takes at the 1800 lb/225 whp level is to crest a hill or go around a curve and the nice officer never sees you again. My biggest secret is that I don't turn down dead ends, especially ones leading to the Billy Graham training center that has armed guards with machine guns and a barricade. ::)

Yeah, but you can outstrip how far the guys operating the Motorola think you can go in a given period of time. Look at the Gumball 3000, guys, they outran radios like it was nothing.

Remember, no matter how bright humans are, we are all just a bunch of stupid monkeys. When you find yourself in a situation like that all you have to do is fool the stupid monkey. No one expects a FWD to move that fast, few people have any idea how much ground a sustained 130+ covers, etc.
