Questions about trading in a car.

Has anyone here traded in a car worth more than the one they want? Im thinking about trading in my camaro for a lt1 corvette.

do stealerships like these kinds of deals?

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

of course they will. but your camaro wont give you near enough cash for a new skyline.....j/k

but yea. just dont expect a whole hell of a lot of cash back

i won't be getting any cash back, but i'd except to only have a couple grand left to pay off rather than about 12.5 cause i'll be throwing down a bunch of cash too.

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

if you get 12k for your trade-in, and youre buying a car for 10k, youll eat it to about 11k after taxes/fees/notary/state bs, youll get a check for the remaining amount

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

they will pay you the diff. IF they accept the trade. theres no guarantee they will.

why would you trade down to a POS lt1 vette. you might as well just trade it in on a civic.

I dont think they would do it. I bet the most they give you for your car is 10k

i'd have to see im not really concearned about the numbers more about trading down.

the dealer kbb on my car is about 17k i believe and the private is 13.something

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

lt1 sucks. And have fun working on that bitch. If you thought the camaro was difficult youre in for a nightmare with a corvette. I would sell my camaro and buy a 99 FRC vette if it wasnt such a pain in the ass to work on.

dealer kbb is 17k aka what you would expect to pay for it at the dealer
private kbb is 13k aka what you would expect to pay for it from a private seller
now go and look up the trade in kbb value ;) aka what its worth to a dealer ;)

how does it look.

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

Lt1 ain't hard to work on, LS1 ain't hard to work on either. they're just small blocks. space is limited on the vette of course.

another reason is i'd rather work on the vette because it isn't worth as much and i hate to ---- up such a nice car that i have too much $ into.

base model c5 is out of the question, its c5 z06 or nothing

I'm just surprised you didn't get a Vette in the first place. Somehow I knew it wouldn't be too long before you ended up getting one.

not that hard to work on? Try dropping the rear end to change a clutch.

not sure about lt1's, but it took me less than an hour to drop the rear/torque tube on a C6. I was amazed at how easy it was to replace the clutch.

im not sure how the c6 under carriage is but i imagine it is the same, and im willing to bet you did the clutch job on a lift, on the ground it would be much more difficult

ok...

you didn't explain it at all... is the frame in the way or something?

normall you would take the drive shaft out then maybe a crossmember or something and then the trans...

I did a clutch on a 4.6 Mustang once... the starter bolts made me want to kill myself. I had 3 feet of extensions + 2 swivels plus another set of hands to unbolt that bitch. ---- transmissions.

I guess I did cheat. Still a pretty simple operation though.

Isn't it something like the torque tube bolts straight from the tranny to the rearend since it has independant suspension? I'm guessing you can't pull off the tranny or the driveshaft ect. without dropping the rearend.

Re: Questions about trading in a car.

I would say if the dealer wants to get rid of the car he will make a deal with you. I've seen plenty of dealers give OVER trade-in value just to sell a car. They will still sell your car for more than what they pay you for it so ---- it. They make money selling you the car and they make money buying your car when they sell it.

It all comes down to how long your mullet is at the time you try to buy that vette. :1

Pretty sure you don't pay taxes on a car if you trade in a car worth more than the one you're purchasing.

they deduct the sales tax, is what i meant. then you have to get a plate and ----, plus final dealer fees. the remaining difference is then written as a check to you. if a car is 10k sticker, thats 10,600 (in my state, county), plus the 100 or so between plate/title/transfer/, dealer fees can be $50 or $750, or anywhere in between. trade-in is subtracted from sticker usually, not after fees (cheaper for you, actually). check gets cut for the difference . TECHNICALLY you don't pay anything since you're gettin a check, you paid it with your trade-in when you bought/modded/kept it.

Re: Questions about trading in a car.
