Question for friend
he got a 68 camaro off his dad, it used to run on a 100+octane (probally turbo blue) and leaded gas, it has a turbo, the car has been unused and sat since around 86
the question is would the turbo be fine on around 93 octane and unleaded gas or would he have to get a new one(im not really sure on this since i really never delt with turbos and either has he) |
Re: Question for friend
octane has nothing to do with the turbo itself. it has to do with the tuning, was it tuned for 100??
|
Re: Question for friend
Yeah his dad has it set up right now that 93 wont really work on it
so all he does is change the compression ratio and it should be fine? |
Re: Question for friend
maybe, or timing, i'm not gonna act like know. i don't even have a turbo on my ----, but i do know octane is related to compression and timing. you may need to just lower boost or something.
hopefully someone else here can answer for sure |
Re: Question for friend
Im guessing this has a carburator?? if so you might just need to rejet the carb. also how much boost??
the compression ratio is only half the problem...if you run 100 oct its requires more gas to make the correct mixture than if he was running 93...the compression might be fine for 93 or you might have to turn the boost down. either way it should be able to run fine on 93 octane. $0.02 dave |
Re: Question for friend
he has a duel carb system set-up on this, he dad hasnt run the car in so long he doesnt know the boost it produces anymore.

Re: Question for friend
go buy some race fuel and fire it up see if it pings

or would u rather spend $$$$$ in replacing the engine u just blew up on 93 octane cuz u didn't know how it would run :P |
Re: Question for friend
you could probably convert to pump gas by rejetting and pulling out a bunch of timing. I bet it will run much better the way it is on 100oct though. You wanna drive it on the street?
|
Re: Question for friend
What a shame, why on earth would anyone ever let a car like that sit for almost 20 years? I would drive that every chance I got!
|
Re: Question for friend
Dude you never told me that thing was turbo :o holy balls. I want to see it >:D
And yeah, the kid wants to make it streetable.. tuning for 93 is a good idea. O0 |

I started a family and had no time to work on it or drive it. so i let it set btw he let the windows open in a non-insulated garage never started it did nothing to it chrome pitted parts rusted interior molded(still smells) engine basicly had to be removed to fix it needs new exhaust new drivetrain basic everything needed replaced lol |
Re: Question for friend
Never drained the fluids or anything? :-X
|
Re: Question for friend
nope let them all sit, he said the gas should be like rubbing alcohol haha
|
Re: Question for friend
lol. oops :-X

Re: Question for friend
first off, a turbo on dual carbs for 1986?????? I don't think so...........
First drop the tank, drain it and flush the lines, then pull the carbs, clean the needle and seat, replace the floats and gaskets. Pics also. Because me bring a old school hot rodder I'm thinking you got the tranny info mixed up with the motor info. Like a Turbo 350 tranny :) |
Re: Question for friend
86? i said a 68 dumbass

Re: Question for friend
Where's the turbo ???
|
Re: Question for friend
tubo 350 tranny jack ass. ::) do you even know what a turbo looks like? that motor probably has a high ass compression and has to use that 100 octane. your gonna have to rejet and possibly drop the compression or your gonna have to run it with 100 octane......CHA,CHING........

Re: Question for friend
Holy christ that is a big engine bay. That would make for a killer twin turbo setup, each carb gets it's own turbo. >:D

The carbs definitely need a rebuild if they've sit for all these years without starting up, so you may as well throw them in the bin and go with EFI. |

Your dumbass ------- words, NOT MINE. In 1986 very few people even messed with turbos, let alone a single turbo dual carb pressurized box. The only setups back then were running twin turbo dual carbs.......... http://www.bankspower.com/Banks-FNN-...car-parts2.jpg Wheres the turbo beotch?????? PS thats not even a 350!!!!!!! or is has a 1957 Vette 283 intake manifold!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Question for friend
You posted a picture of the engine bay and still didn;t realize that the car didn't have a turbo. I'm not gonna be a dick and call you a dumbass (although I don't blame the person who does), but don't try and talk about things you know nothing about. Chevy made transmissions called turbo-hydramatic 350 and 400, and 200 actually. this does not make the car turbo. a turbo charger is a spinny thing that pushes more stuff into your motor

Re: Question for friend
but not in the combo he suggested..........
I called the Turbo 350 and the wrong engine........original poster hasn't a clue :) |

Im with you on the kid not knowing anything about that car but it did sound like you thought he said the car was made in 86 that had a turbo when he clearly said a 68 that sat since 86. |
