Default Question for friend

he got a 68 camaro off his dad, it used to run on a 100+octane (probally turbo blue) and leaded gas, it has a turbo, the car has been unused and sat since around 86

the question is
would the turbo be fine on around 93 octane and unleaded gas or would he have to get a new one(im not really sure on this since i really never delt with turbos and either has he)

octane has nothing to do with the turbo itself. it has to do with the tuning, was it tuned for 100??

Yeah his dad has it set up right now that 93 wont really work on it

so all he does is change the compression ratio and it should be fine?

maybe, or timing, i'm not gonna act like know. i don't even have a turbo on my ----, but i do know octane is related to compression and timing. you may need to just lower boost or something.
hopefully someone else here can answer for sure

Im guessing this has a carburator?? if so you might just need to rejet the carb. also how much boost??

the compression ratio is only half the problem...if you run 100 oct its requires more gas to make the correct mixture than if he was running 93...the compression might be fine for 93 or you might have to turn the boost down. either way it should be able to run fine on 93 octane. $0.02 dave

go spend the extra buck to get a gallon or 2 of 100 octane to see how she runs

or would u rather spend $$$$$ in replacing the engine u just blew up on 93 octane cuz u didn't know how it would run :P

you could probably convert to pump gas by rejetting and pulling out a bunch of timing. I bet it will run much better the way it is on 100oct though. You wanna drive it on the street?
