Re: puppy question.
It sounds to me like your dog has kennel cough. I'm assuming you got the dog recently. Kennel cough is ------ very easily from dog to dog esp. in a kennel, hence the name. My pup had this when I got her. Snot running all the time and the dog looks like it is trying to hack up a lung. The vet gave her a shot for the kennel cough which was some sort of anti-biotic, but if your dog doesn't have its required shots the vet will probably want to give all the required pup shots and you willl easily spend over $100 at the vet.
Kennel cough is kinda like a cold it just has to run its course. The dog will have a lose of appetite. The vet told me if I was having trouble getting the dog to eat her pup food mix some non-fat yogurt in with its dry food. But since it sounds like you have already been spoiling your dog with the wrong kinds of food, it wiil be very hard to get it to eat pup food.
Just do a search for Kennel Cough on google, you can find some good info.

Re: puppy question.
shots are not that bad. with most dog shots you only have to get it under the skin and not into a vien. when you tke the puppy into see the vet ask what shots he think the puppy needs and then go get them from somewhere else. pectco might but i got mine from a local feed store. i feed my dog bones too but i wanted until he was a year but i dont think thats the worst thing he eats. my little sisters like feeding him hot cheetos and coke just to see him run around

Re: puppy question.
I had two friend who let their dog eat/chew bones and both end up with 1K+ medical bills.
On one of the dog before the owner relized, he stopped eating for a week and got skinny as ----, only drink water and always laying down and whine once a while. finally they took him to the vet to get x-rayed and found a piece of chicken bone got caught in the throat. the vet actually gave him some medicine that will enlarge the throat so the bone just fell ?

buk9tp - ok talked to the fiance and she didn't have anything to share other than definitly get him on a reasonable diet. He could just be showing signs of general bad health from his bad diet. Imagine how you'd feel after a few weeks of eating nothing than bones and fat. Not too great, you'd probably drool a bit too. It wouldn't hurt to get a flashlight and check the roof of it's mouth and back of throat to make sure no bone fragments are in there.
Scrape up some $$ and get the vaccines taken care of. If not, you'll grow attached to the dog, it gets sick and you gotta sell turbo ---- for vet bills. An ounce of prevention is worth a t3/t4 and a ramhorn manifold.
Regarding the coughing dog, most likely it's kennel cough. It can be treated but as another poster said if the dog is in otherwise good health, it will run it's course but a vet visit is always a safe bet.

Re: puppy question.
yeah the ONLY bones a dog should be chewing on is cow bones like from the calf or shoulderor leg...
(my dad was a butcher for 27 years and fed his dogs these even before I was born)
those bones cant splinter...
those bones are VERY tough and large, the marrow inside is wonderful for dogs, tons of nutrients...
of course my dad boiled these bones for like 15 minutes to kill any bacteria...
