Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

Sounds a bit excessive maybe if you starved your self or dehydrated I think 60% of body weight is water. If you want to loose fat that requires not eating much and excercising to speed up the process, fat is the last thing your body burns, it actually begins breaking down muscle tissue to an extent before it begins using fat. Also I remember reading there is a hormone released by adipose cells that signals hunger to your brain, kinda ironic the larger a person is the more their body signals them to eat. Thoes cells don't go away once the weight is gone they are just emptied of the lipids they hold, maybe a reason why so many relapse?

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

A pound a day is a lot. Shoot for like 3 a week or so.

The fastest way to drop pounds is cutting out carbs 100%. Working out only adds muscle and all that garbage.

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

cutting carbs makes your body have to use your stored fat for energy :)

just dont do it forever

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

Im loosing about 3 lbs a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.....

I work out 4-5 times a week an hour at a time, 20-25 minutes to weights, 15 reps 2 sets with 15 seconds rest between sets (building fast twitch muscles) for wieghts alternating between upper and lower body by day...
Then 25-28 minutes high intensity cardio....I would say on a scale of 1-10 effort I put in a 7 on the cardio

Ive cut back big time on my eats....I dont eat out at all now....portions are way too big, and I will eat whatever is in front of me. I wake up, eat a bannana/ multi-vitamin then eat a small sandwhich with a vege-paty, then have a typical dinner. I eat fish for dinner at least 2-3 nights a week. I've noticed a big change in my energy level, and I'm not mentally tired when I get home from work anymore. At first it was hell, but now Im seriously addicted to working out, I really feel physically ill if I dont work out now.

Bottom line though is motivation. I got so sick and tired of denying that I was fat, I didnt used to be, but college got to me, and I wasnt nearly as active as I used to be. I also have cancer/heart disease in my family, and my dad just got out of the hospital for colin cancer, that was a wake up call as well. The worst was looking at my wedding photos and not recognizing myself anymore, that is what pissed me off the most. Its hard ass work, and you have to get really pissed to do this

If you do the "Atkins" thing, then buy the book and read it cover to cover. So many people just "cut carbs" without actually realizing how to do it or what it does to their body. Atkins went in stages and for the first two stages anything over like 20grams of carbs (like one slice of bread if I remember), pretty much reset your program back to day one. Their are also vitamin suppliments you must take the first few weeks, outlined in the book, and dont expect to take a ---- for your first week, you get constipated big time, and when you do ---- the smell can melt through steel (that one wasnt in the book).

The other funny thing about the book [Atkins] is after a while you go back to just eating a regular low fat low calorie diet

how tall are you buk? I need to lose weight too.

I too only wana lose fat, but muscle wouldnt be a bad idea. I havent worked out since senior year of high school. I was 17 then, now im 19. i weighed like 225, could bench 255, squat 500 and run a mile and a half without stopping. I bet I couldnt lift 180 if i tried right now. I cant even run one lap around the track without stopping :(. and last time i weighed myself, about 2 weeks ago with jeans/shirt, steel toe boots, i weighed like 255:(. I've also noticed that I go through ------- depression stages once in a while. its ------- gay and I hate it.

im only 5' 9 1/2" btw, a short, fat mexican.

I say we get a competition going between the two.

im 5'7''

lol that would be cool

but i need the definite answer on weather or not running is the best way to loose weight

i can go hit up kensington and they got a nice 17 mile trail there

hell i jogged 7 miles to my cousins house and jogged/walked 7 miles back and felt like i had enough energy to do it again

im pretty sure a nice scenery filled metro park would be alot more fun than running through lame city streets at 4am :p

Oscar 10-20-2006 01:01 AM

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

2 McChickens, 2 double cheeseburgers only with ketchup and mayo(they put a TON of mayo, cholesterol ftw!), 1 large fries with 3 bbq thingies and a large drink.

thats what I had every day my gf worked. prolly about 4-5 days out of the week, every week for the entire summer.

I lost 35lbs in a month one time without using drugs. I just drank about a gallon of water a day and ran about 2 miles a day, I ate 5 times a day, very lite meals, like veggies brown rice, and chicken and tuna, stayed below 25 grams of fat and 70grams of carbs, but you have to eat ateast one fatning meal a week to keep your matab. up. that how I did it ;)

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

Simple, you need to make your body burn more calories than you consume. There are a few ways to do this-

Your metabolic rate determines how many calories you burn. Since just living uses the most amount of calories, you need to exercise for about 30min a day (or keep your heart rate increased), which will boost your metabolism. Also, stay away from saturated/trans fats.

Drink water, eat insoluble fibers, make sure you eat foods that contain essential amino acids (protein, such as animal products, also eat soy products and legumes, as they're full of essentials). Eating the right proteins will help lipid transport.

While a pound a day of seems like a lot, and it is, you could always dehydrate yourself. Problem with this is that you'll just gain the weight back a few days after you stop. That's why diet pills never work.

Don't kill yourself though. You can definitely burn out. Honestly, about 30-40 minutes of elevated heart rate EVER DAY is better than "binge" running for a week or so. It's hard on your body. If you want to have a healthy body, you need to develop healthy habits.

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

easy, just start at 500pnds like me, then start eating right, walking a small amount each night, boom, im averaging 5-7 pnds a week, up to thanksgiving that was, then i ate like 900pnds of butterball so time to start over.

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

I stay slim and beautiful by smoking lots of weed.

It elevates your metabolism, if you can resist the munchies (i don't really feel hungry, ever) you lose weight. I lost about 7lbs a week for 2 weeks running by not eating and smoking lots of ganja.

At one point i was down to around 140lbs, i'm now a slightly more respectable 160lbs, which at 6'2" isn't exactly much. But at least i'm not seriously underweight. As a kid i was always on the heavy side.

Re: is it possible to loose a pound a day?

I'm weighing in at about 205 these days... I should be in the 170-180 range... ever since I turned 21 I've been drinking about 4-5 times a week. I'm trying to cut it down to 1-2 times (since booze has a lot of calories).

Also, cutting out fast food... it's unfortunate that it's so much cheaper to eat ----.

when i did wrestling in high school, we wanted to make it into the lower weight bracket to smash on some smaller guys. so we would chew starburst all day to make us salivate and spit our saliva into a water bottle all day. after doing it for a week i lost 5 pounds in water weight. i only did it at school too so i guess that's a pound a day. only problem is, it's water weight, so it's real easy to gain back by drinking a forty.

It found you again, didn't it ;D J/K I did a modified version of the Adkins diet before, lost 36 lbs in like 2.5 months and kept it off for about a year and a half. It wasn't a pound a day, but it is the longest I have ever kept weight off, even after returning to my normal eating habits.

they made us run all day if we weighed too much. they had sweat suits for us too. we also starved ourselves until after weigh-in. then we'd pig out, lol.

I miss playing sports :'( I used to be heavily into soccer until i got in-grown toe nails, i ------- hate that ----. I was all-city in wrestling too :p our city has four other schools, and like 6 other guys were in the same weight bracket as me.
