Dammit! I got something nasty today on my one computer and adaware is not having a good time fixing it.
I hate it when using IE and you stumble upon a website and it starts freezing and you know there's some nasty code getting transferred, but you can't do a damn thing about it. Then it takes a while for task manager to close IE out. Next thing you know you have a "new toolbar".
Grrrrr...just venting...because I am cleaning this ---- up now and I'm posting from my server.

Adware doesn't clean everything, you need to also run spysweeper and spybot (search & destroy). Only then everything will be cleaned. The windows popups can be disabled thru your registry, half the ------- popups and other fuckups of windows XP can all be remedied thru your registry.
Run zonealarm pro and you'll be good to go for all other popups. Further things to enhance your computer would be editing out your HOSTS file to block unwanted crappy ad servers.

Ok, you need the spyware removing trio:

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors
http://www.webroot.com/download/tria...1749726925.exe
Then go find you some zonealarms pro off your favorite p2p network. BLAM, you're all hooked up.

Or you could do what I do..
Format the drive, install OS of choice and all necessary software/drivers/plug-ins/etc. *Ghost that bitch onto a removable harddrive or cd or whatever. Then, if you run into any uncurable problems the solution is just 10-20 mins away Makes it much nicer for some deep level registry hacking. Hmm. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.. I don't need that.. delete..
*Ghost - Program that does a sector level copy of a hardrive/partition and saves to a single image file that can be stored on another drive/cd. It's like a custom made system restore disk. Program is made my Norton.. there are others.. I prefer Ghost.

A reformat and re-install for me takes over 5 hours. Driver updates only take about 15 mins total so it's definately worth it. Plus, I usually re-ghost once a week or so and update the image. I keep the last 3 images in a rotating fashion so if the last one was bad, I can go back to the previous weeks. It's a cheap and effective backup scheme for home users.
