Picked up the September SCC magazine.. disappointed

Had some cool cars and cool swaps, but the times seemed.. off.

1985 Dodge Omni w/ LSD
321 whp
341 lb-ft torque to the wheels
2440 lbs
12.9 on slicks

1989 Mitsubishi Mirage (built 4g63)
411 whp
368 lb-ft torque to the wheels
2480 lbs
13.5

Is it just me or do these guys not seem to know what they're doing or what? :-\

I saw that. They even had an H22 swapped CRX that I thought ran a bit slow. Like low 13's with slicks and nitrous ???

Yeah, and they spent $8000 on it... That one had 209 hp and 186 lb-ft with nitrous, and ran a 13.5 with slicks and nitrous ??? Blah. I wish we had someone get featured, like BBKA to show you don't need to invest TONS of money to go fast..

I honestly think that ctr98's car (I think that's his name), BBKA or someone making good power/times with a homemade setup could easily be featured in a mag. No doubt about it.

CTR98's car is definitely a good show/go car, and BBKA shows that the D still has some merit. I don't understand how these Honda-Tech Specials get into magazines.

they said the mirage was running the 1/4 on street tires, and had insane wheel hop
the crx was cool and gay at the same time I was impressed at how hasport did such a good job with it but was dissapointed at the money invested.

The talon and mirage times were garbage. All that power and they even trapped low?My friends identical mirage with a 14b ran 12.7@113 on pump off the bottle. He was on a stock longblock and put down 298 hp and 327 torque with a 35 shot. There going to get a ton of mail for that issue.I seriously think my black talon would have walked all the cars in that magazine.

I have a subscription and I have to admit the magazine is finally taking steps in the right direction now that they have a different editor.

That's a good thing.. but these cars had HUGE power, but nothing to get it to the ground? That's just idiotic.

All around HMT must be the BEST on the earth. I was at the track Friday and there are some cars (SI super 60 Turbo) throwing down at best 14 flat. Street tires, but dang my single could do that. The all motors were impressive, but as for the turbo hondas.....phfft. I was soooooo dissappointed.

I stoped subscribing to SCC years ago, looks like I'm not missing a thing.

Ya, I thought the times where off for the power out put. Didn't the Mirage spit out an axle on one of there runs?

I still love the Sleeper-ability of a Junkyard Omni though!

The magazine is getting better though. I would say about 40% of the cars are pretty damn cool. Nobody likes to see 1000+ supras and ---- EVERY magazine.

I guess when one of the people from the magazine romped on it, it bucked and kicked and spit out an axle. Sounds really safe. ::)

Re: Picked up the September SCC magazine.. disappointed

they should stick to stealing any honda related articles from Honda Tuning.

1. The CRX that they said was an 88 was actually a 90-91 (corner lights, tail lights, door seat belts...)
2. They said the CRX Si had a 1.5l engine.
3. They suck.

I saw that issue too. I noticed thought that the H22 crx was only gaining 25 hp to the wheels with the N20....... ???

GHEY

I can't even stand to read that magazine, I haven't touched it since the day I bought it. So now I'm basically down to Hot Rod magazine and thats it. The latest one has the pump gas drags, 4 guys ran in the 8's in full street trim on 92 octane gas :o
