Picked up my 5th DSM yesterday

Sold my 92 talon tsi/awd auto for $1,000 and then took this in trade also. (considering I only paid $1,000 for my 92 this is a steal)

The car is a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi/AWD 5spd.

Good Stuff:
Already put my 2.5" IC pipes on it and GM MAF-T setup
3" TBE
Fresh 93' Transmisson
4 Bolt Rear
EPROM ECU

Bad Stuff:
Old Paint
Kid thought tranny was fuxed... but it just had like .5 quarts of oil in it :o ::)

Just make it a best 3 out of 5 race and the DSM won't last until the last race - even if the waste gate was hooked up. :8

Re: Picked up my 5th DSM yesterday

That's why in the last five years of owning DSM's I've never been stranded by one, have put over 75k miles overall and over 200+ passes at the track, and easily twice that on the street.

I suppose that's how they got the reputation as an unreliable car? :3

I've put over 75k miles overall and over 200+ passes at the track, and easily twice that on the street on my SSAC turbo kit and it's never left me stranded in the 5 years I've owned it. That must mean SSAC is the best and everything the make is God's gift to man. ::)

Get real, DSM isn't that great and nobody cares if you picked up your 5th one yesterday. Fist yourself.

Race them on the weekend and they Don't Start Monday ;D

J/K man, yea, they do have some reliability issues, but I had a 90 AWD TSi and I liked it alot. It was a fun car. I never had any real problems with it but I didn't beat on it that much and never messed with the stock boost level either. I don't think they are any more unreliable than your average HMT'd Honda, they just have different weak points.

A car is only as reliable as the person that works on it. ::) DSM's get bad reps' from shitbags who think they can turn wrenches. I don't take lightly to people insulting my cars and work.

I'll get some pictures up when I'm home off work.

I think you got distracted :P

I wonder how many of you guys have actually worked with a Mitsubishi, and heard a story of a daily-raped Talon with 250k have the tranny drop so suddenly its a pos and you tell everyone on the internets that it is...

Zeniceguycrx 10-19-2006 09:02 PM

Re: Picked up my 5th DSM yesterday

I had a 93 awd tsi, sdm redtop engine, oil cooler, all stock boost levels. It was awsom, but I was used to raping a crx daily. The tranny lost gears after 1 week and had to be replaced, the week after I got it back the turbo went, the week after that the engine went, the week after that I had a CRX again and looked back.

DSM's are time bombs.

My buddy has a 2g. Tranny went out, so put in a shep racing (stage 3??). Once that was done, the waterpump went out, so we're doing that now. And of course, it's a 7 bolt motor, which means it'll probably crankwalk. They're a pain in the ------- ass.

^ Your buddy is messing with a 7 bolt and expected nothing to go wrong? 6 bolt pwns 7 bolt hands down, and im pretty sure the 1g transmissions are a lot better too.

I want one bad. Im actually thinking about trading a guy who has a couple awd turbo talons both my 91 hatch and my 92 ex four door for one. Its a six bolt with a built tranny, so its ok.

Re: Picked up my 5th DSM yesterday

Anyone who knows me, knows mine breaks quite a bit. I take very good care of it. No I don't run synthetic oil or anything like that. But I very much so take care of it, and is pretty freaking clean for a 1g. It leaked from ------- everywhere, but the new motor should be in and going in about a week now, and that should take care of my leaks. The engines are strong, I just swear I've broken just about everything that is attached to the engine. I know they break, I accept it, I do my best to prevent it, but sometimes it just happens. The car is fun as hell, I enjoy it when it works, and I'll have it for a long time. I'm not going to sit here and brag that it is the hottest thing around, and I can beat anything out there. It's just another car, that's quick, fun to drive, and AWD is pretty sweet to have. They can be made quick pretty easily, and cheaply, but so can many other cars. I find it annoying when other DSMers think they are king ---- of ---- mountain, and can beat anything out there, because they have turbo and AWD. No body wants to hear that ----. I've had my ass handed to me plenty of times this summer by a civic hatch, viper, camaro, trans am, just to name a few. I don't give a ---- if I lose it's all in fun to me. I'll race pretty much anyone just for fun.

There is a lot of DSM hate on here, but that's fine by me. It's what I chose, I love it, I built everything on it that I could. I could care less if someone else hates it, I love it. Here's a pic for those who care, flame away!

Koby's a girl? Ha.

Ya Austin, I had to quote Derek there!

I don't have a whole lot more right now. I also don't have a real recent engine bay shot, but here's one that was taken earlier this summer when we finished up with the charge pipe fabrication. Note the hot Stevemode couplers :6 Everything is powder coated now under there too, since we purchased a powder coating system. I'm changing the colors now though. Everything is being redone flat black I think.

Here's a pic before I got the thing painted, and before I put the 92 rear bumper on.

The one I posted in the earlier post is after the paint job, and so are these, the day I drove it home from Maaco. All I have to say to the Maaco haters out there, here's their $600 paint job. Whatcha think about that?
