Re:Performance Nissan or Kia

dam jeff, it sounds like we have alot in common. I worked at a checy/chrylser/caddi dealer... I used to be a lot bitch, then i was the lot manager, then I was a salesman, then i got fired (as all salespeople do unless they are sales gods) now im in the Marine Corps. Im about to get out and go to Wyo Tech for collision refinishing/street rod repair/performance.

I have been in your shoes(kinda) and I took this advice and lived pretty well with it.....

If you truely love your job, and love what you do, it isn't work. It becomes a passion. I think this rings very true. Thats why I am gonna get out of the Marines and get back into the automobile industry.

I think there is more to the job than the pay. I would rather sacrifice pay for people who you love to work with and enjoy more of what you are doing.

good luck to you Jeff....

^^^^^they said it all already.

but i mean i would rather work with ppl that i already knew.
nothing hurts more than when you found out tons of new restritions, and relized your new co-workers are bitches to work with.
A Kia mechanic, IMO is a hundred times better than when i tell ppl "i stacking boxes in a warehouse that sells Altezza lights" :-X, i don`t really care what ppl think about my job or what i do, but i know what u meant, sometimes it does bothers me a little, but it`s a job man, i mean i am not just bagging there all day but actually WORK there.

Yeah it sounds like a hard decision. I would probably be leaning more towards kia because of the friends that work there. Those long days at nissan wouldn't be too fun with a bunch of old fat guys. Not being able to do projects would suck, but you might be able to sweet talk your new manager into letting you do some. You could always start your own company and fabricate/install custom turbo kits.

i have to agree. But the only thing that sucks is working somewhere you dont want to work at. I know you stated you dont like working on kias. Its a real hard decesion but do what makes you happy the most though idk :-\

the way i see it is, both places are restructuring and are going to be under new management. while your current manager will be at kia, you never know what kind of fucked up rules his boss will come up with. it will also be the same at nissan.

go where you will be happy, and go where you have an opportunity for advancement.

Coming from the same industry, and even job tittle as a service technician, I would definately be torn between the two. Kia will continue to grow rapidly which means your income will only go up. They are all going to need PDIs which is going to help you in the winter time when there isn't ---- to do but play PS2 or blow up empty coolant jugs. I'd die if I wasn't allowed to work on my projects after hours.

Nissan just keeps coming out w/cars people actually want to be seen in, and enjoy. That of course creates pride (or in other words, a dick head of a customer) and when you are doing inspections on a vehicle you won't have too much worry about whether or not the customer is going to authorize that Rear main leak you just found. Kia customer- "uhhh, i'll wait on that, my uncle is a mechanic." Plus who likes digging through warranty manuals trying to find OP codes!

I dunno man... I think my tool box weighs in about even w/my Rex, I hate moving boxes.

This about where you may be at each dealership in 5 or even 10 YEARS from now... that should make your ultimate decision, whats in store for ya.
